He felt the towel brush over his face and he chuckled as he was handed the fluffy cloth. He rubbed it over his hair, causing it to spike up in all directions, drying slightly. He looked over to Mai and traded the coffee and tea for the towel and watched as she took the kettle from the roughly packed box. Mai grabbed his arm and dragged him to the kitchen, he just chuckled the whole way. "Hey we don't even have sugar or milk." He laughed so much he could barely speak. They came to a stop next to a counter top which was near to a plug. He plugged the kettle in then went back to the boxes to find cups and sugar. The sugar was easy, a small bag sitting in the middle of an open box, and the cups were in another box, one of the only boxes to be neatly packed. He pulled out two black ceramic cups and took them, and the sugar to the kitchen, remembering that he hadn't gotten milk yet.
He placed the cups on the table and opened the coffee tin, finding a spoon already in it. "Uh, how much?" He asked her as he put one spoon full in his cup. Hearing her reply he put coffee for her as she asked. He picked up the sugar packed, finding no spoon so he just took the coffee spoon and put two in for himself. "Once again, how many?" He asked, quickly remembering the kettle was still off and switching it on, only to find it did nothing. He looked to the plug to see that it had yet to be switched on. He chuckled lightly and turned it on. The kettle light flashed on and soon the water was simmering lightly.

~~~~~~~~~~ Mai grinned as she watched him walk back to the boxes to get the other things. She hadn’t thought about cups and sugar didn’t interest her with coffee. Waiting for him to come back she glanced around the kitchen. It was small but that was expected in an apartment. There was little cabinet space but again, it was an apartment. Turning back to him as he walked in with the sugar and cups she followed him to the counter, putting her chin on his shoulder as he set the things down. She blinked as he put the coffee right into the cup. That was so not how she was used to it. Looking at him she raised an eyebrow and shrugged at his question of how much. “I don’t know…I’ve never had it like this before.” She said eyeing the tin. “I guess make it strong.” She said with a grin. Watching him put sugar in his cup she shook her head. “No sugar for me thanks. I like it black.” She said watching him fiddle with the kettle and plug. As the kettle heated up the water and their mugs were ready and waiting for the hot water she turned him around to face her. She put her arms around his neck and looked him in the eyes. “I’m sorry.” She finally said after a moment of just staring at him. “I’m sorry for my actions. I know they confuse you. They confuse me. The things I’m feeling confuse me.” She said trying to explain to him, her voice growing softer as she talked and her head lowering to look at his chest as it rose and fell gently against her own.
He looked to her as she asked about the coffee, then remembering that he'd picked it up on one of his many travels. A light chuckle left him as she suggested to just make it strong. He shrugged and dumped 3 spoons in, getting ready to put her sugar. He paused as she said none was fine. "Well, okay, just warning you." He said softly as he put the sugar away. He was about to add the water when she turned him around, he watched her nervously, why was she apologising? Then it hit him, she was goign on about not understanding her feelings, a light smile touched his lips and he just put his arms around her, holding ehr close. "Hey, it's okay, I understand now, okay?" He said, moving away so he could look her in the eyes. He put his hand under her chin, lifting it slightly then kissing her forehead. He turned and poured the coffee in then stirred it slowly. He picked up the cups and moved toward the living room, looking at Mai making sure she was following. He found a small table near the couch and clearn it off with his elbow, simply letting a box fall off, luckily it was empty and didn't land loudly or make a mess. He put the two cups down then looked for Mai. "So, let's talk, shall we?" He said with a tiny smirk.
~~~~~~~~~~ Mai laughed at his warning and kissed his neck lightly. She glanced up at him as he spoke before looking back down at her feet. He said he understood but she still didn’t. Nodding her head gently and smiled at him as he kissed her forehead. Stepping away from him she watched him pour the hot water into the mugs and slowly stirred them. Her eyes traced his form taking in more of the muscles that she could see now that his shirt was wet. Her eyes watched him as he walked back into the living room. A smirk slid across her face and she watched him push the box off the table before she moved to follow him. She picked up the mug that she could smell her coffee from and sat down on the couch, leaving room for him to sit next to her. Once he sat she leaned up against him and sipped at the coffee. The bitter taste hit her tongue and brought a smile to her face. She settled herself comfortable against him before responding to him. “So…what shall we talk about?” She asked, tilting her head back to look at him upside down. The smirk upon his face made her wonder if there was something specific he wanted to talk about or just make small talk. She caught a glimpse of the clock as she tilted her head back. It was already 2 in the afternoon. Where had the time gone? Staring at him upside down she also thought that she really didn’t care. She had enjoyed herself this afternoon so far. Even if her whole world had been shaken about like a snow globe.

Her lips softly touched his neck as he made the coffee, putting a big smirk on his face, he couldn't help but enjoy every moment he spent with him. He walked slowly to the living room, feeling her eyes follow him as he walked. He watched her grab her cup and move toward the couch, sitting himself down slowly, holding his cup firmly in his hand, making sure it wouldn't spill on him. He felt her move again him and he looked down to her, she seemed to love her coffee very much, which was interesting to him, he'd drink the stuff but he never REALLY liked it. He just grinned at her as she moved to watch him upside down, he truly didn't understand her sometimes. He ran his fingers through her hair slowly, still feeling how damp it was. He grinned lightly and looked out the window, still seeing the water storm down, now harder than before. "Well first off, how did you get here? And why here of all places?" He asked with a small chuckle, she really didn't seem to be the kind of person to choose a relatively small town and settle down, ever, especially after her time as a pirate. He couldn't help but chuckle again, he'd never get used to the fact that she was once a pirate. He looked down to her again after staring at the window for a bit too long, watching her lightly as he waited for a response.

~~~~~~~~~~ Lifting her head from being upside down she shrugged and laid her head on his shoulder. “I got here because I like port towns and this was the last stop the ship made. They had something legal to do for once.” She chuckled at the thought of the crew doing right. “Like I said before…I needed a change. This seemed to be the place to make it.” A smile crept onto her face as she took another drink of her coffee. “And it seems like a damn good change to me.” She muttered into the liquid. Pulling the cup from her mouth she returned his question. “Well what about you? Why’d you stop training? Why are you settling here?” She sat up off him to listen to his answer. She wanted to see the look in his eyes to know if he was telling the truth. Looking in his eyes again she sighed softly. Over the years his eyes hadn’t changed, not much. They were still the same color and hadn’t gained too much hardness to them as she felt hers had. Then again he had been training, not off killing people. She’d killed people but there were some she refused to kill, such as children and those still young and able to change. She had watched these people be killed though, by others and it had begun to wear on her. It was one of the reasons she was settling and thinking about dropping her work. She loved it but it had put a deep, deep scar on her soul. Her eyes had lost some of their glint as she thought and she very nearly missed his response to her question.
He draped an arm around her as she moved to rest her her on his shoulder. He listened carefully as she answered, it seemed to work to him, it made sense and he saw that she was being truthful and seeing her smile just made his face echo the look. "Well yeah, agreed it is quite a change from a ship." He said with a light chuckle as he rested his head on top of hers. “Well what about you? Why’d you stop training? Why are you settling here?” Brad looked down to her, he knew she'd ask but he actually had to think before he answered her, he wondered if she'd heard or not. He bit on his lip softly as he thought if she should know or not, then eventually he just sighed and looed away. "Well, to tell the truth, I am kinda training." He said, trying to hide his eyes from her. "See, I've been hearing things on my travels, about...well," He looked shut his eyes and swallowed hard. "Okay fine, you already know about wers, you should know about them, there are supposedly newborns around this area." He said, looking to her now, his eyes glazed over as he shut off his emotions, he felt worry nagging at his heart as he realized that she was here, and so were vampires, or so people said. In truth he had moved here to see what all the fuss was about, also he'd be payed for any new borns he took to a guy he'd met not too far from the port.
~~~~~~~~~~ She frowned as he looked away from her but his next comment brought a small smile to her face. "Well, to tell the truth, I am kinda training." She should have known he’d never stop training. She studied him as he stammered through his next sentence. Mai nodded at knowing about weres, she knew about most of the mythicical creatures of the time. Her look soured as he mentioned newborns. She hated vampires. She had more than a few run ins with them on her travels. She had to admit though, she had smelt them when she came into town, but they had been farther away. Like the next town over so she had no true worries of running into one. Looking at him she saw his eyes glaze over and instantly felt worry for him. “I’m going with you.” She said suddenly. Seeing the confusion on his face she said, “If you go after any vampire, newborn or not, I’m coming with you. And don’t even think to leave me behind.” She gave him a fierce look ensuring that he knew she meant it. She knew what newborns could do, they would easily over power him if they got the slightest drop on him. She couldn’t, just couldn’t let him do anything that stupid along. Setting her mug down on the coffee table she turned back to him and gently put her hands along his jaw. “Promise me.” She said looking into his eyes. Her hands were warm from the mug and under her hands she felt his skin. It was smooth but she could also feel the tightness in his jaw as her eyes never left his.

“I’m going with you.” Brad snapped to look at her, his features showing his total change of feeling, he'd gone from joking to one hundred percent serious. "No." The next few words made him want to cover her mouth with his hand to shut her up, there was no chance in his life time that he would allow her to get near to a newborn on his watch, a newborn or any other kind of creature that could harm her. He knew full well she could take care of herself, suddenly be heard the cup being put down and felt her hands touch his cheeks, he turned his eyes to stare into hers, seeing them turned him soft again and he realized just how he was acting, she'd never be close to him if he tried to control her, he knew that full well, but he just could risk her. He put his hands on hers and slowly pulled them from his face, turning his face away so he didn't have to see her face, he didn't want to fight, and he knew if he tried to stop her that's what would happen. "Just...look I'm gonna go out tomorrow, but I, well, you, ugh..." He shut his eyes and let go of her hands, turning away from her completely, he wanted her with, but only if there was no risk of her getting hurt, he knew she could fight, better than him, but even so he knew he'd be worried about her too much if she was there.

~~~~~~~~~~ She let her hands be pulled from his face, her face dropped as he turned away. She had tried to read his eyes before he looked away but he was shutting her out. A sigh escaped her lips as she let her hands drop to her lap. He wouldn’t promise her, she knew that. Thinking about it she couldn’t think of a reason why. Could it have been that he was afraid for her safety? That very well could have been it, but he knew she could take care of herself. Thinking on it more she thought about something else. She knew that if the two ended up fighting something together she would be able to push off her feelings for him until whatever was attacking them was gone, but would he? Would he be able to put his focus on the attacker and not her? "Just...look I'm gonna go out tomorrow, but I, well, you, ugh...” He turned away from her completely and she sighed again. She would have to let him go or risk losing him. Biting her lip she forced his body to face her. She couldn’t make him look into her eyes but hoped he would on his own. “I…I’ll make a deal with you…” She started, gripping her hands tightly together, fingernails biting into her palms. “I won’t go with you tomorrow….But I won’t leave here. I will stay here until you come back.” Her thoughts went to him coming home to an empty place, him bleeding and hurt. She knew he’d heal quickly enough but she couldn’t stand the thought of him being hurt.
His body was forced to face her but he still looked to the side, biting down on his teeth, but he glanced at her out of the corner of his eyes as she spoke about a deal. He shut his eyes and sighed softly before looking down to the carpet. Suddenly something began to irritate his palms and he rubbed them together, but it didn't go away. He looked to his hands and saw nothing wrong but it felt like his palms were being stabbed or scratched, but there was nothing, not even redness. He looked over to Mai and realized he had zoned out slightly then paused in total shock at what he saw. There she sat, her hands held tight and her nails digging into her skin, the sickening smell of blood filled him as he realized what was going on. He grabbed her hands and loosened them, noticing as soon as her nails left her palms the pain in his hands left him. He sat back in confusion and just looked at her, what was happening, had he really just felt her pain? He looked away quickly, trying to think of some way to test this. "Hey Mai, do me a favor and pinch yourself." he said, closing his eyes and hoping he didn't sound as crazy to her as he did to himself. Knowing that she bled and he felt it had taken him by surprise, but had it really been that? or had he simply gone totally bonkers.
~~~~~~~~~~ Mai blinked suddenly as he pulled her hands from her palms. There were four small crescent moon shaped marks on each of her palms. She hadn’t even realized she was upset enough at the thought of him being hurt to hurt herself. She blinked at Brad, how had he known. Thinking about it, she could smell the scent of blood in the air from the cuts. Shrugging it off she looked back at him. He hadn't said anything about her deal with him when he asked for a favor. His favor confused her but she did as he asked and pinched her arm. She didn’t really feel anything, a small pressure, nothing more than a poke to her. She looked at him with a raise eyebrow. “Brad….what’s going on?” She asked wondering what was going on in that mind of his. He knew she didn’t feel pain so why was he asking her to pinch herself? She sat watching him, her hands were already healing up. The nice thing about being a shifter with her condition, small things like this weren’t too big an issue as long as someone stopped her. Her eyes searched his face for some sign as to what was going on.

A sudden sharp pain hit his arm as he saw her pinch herself, he had to rub it quickly to take the pain away. He was getting more and more nervous things went on. “Brad….what’s going on?” "I wish I knew..." He said softly, still rubbing his arm when it occurred to him that he could feel her pain, and something nagged at him, wondering if she could feel the same, but she'd never felt pain before, why would she now? He looked to her, his eyes soft as he thought over what he was about to do. "Hey if I try this, tell me what you feel, okay?" He said softly, he moved his hand up to his arm and hovered it there for a moment, thinking it over one more time, chances are she wouldn't feel a thing, but something told him that she just might. "Just, brace yourself, okay?" He said with a light playful chuckle then shut his eyes and pinched his arm. He winced lightly, he hated being pinched, being cut was fine, being smashed was fine, but pinching was just, bad, to him. He quickly looked to her to see how much, if any, of a reaction it got from her.

~~~~~~~~~~ She blinked and watched him rub at his arm. Had he felt the pinch she had given herself. How the hell was that possible. She looked him in the eyes and knew he had a little clue as her. Blinking she wondered what he was going to do that she should feel. Her eyes followed his hand as he hovered over his skin for a minute. She nodded at him with an odd look on her face. What was he going to do that she needed to brace herself for? She watched him pinch himself and suddenly, out of nowhere she felt it. She curse and rubbed at her arm. “Brad what the hell is going on?!?!?” She asked; she was scared and quite certain that she had felt pain. She never felt pain. She should have only felt a poke. She looked him in the eyes, not even trying to hide her fear. “Brad….” She said slowly, trying to calm herself down. She rubbed her arm one last time before the pain went away. Having felt that she was glad for her condition for a moment, she’d known she’d hurt herself worst in the past and couldn’t imagine what it would have felt like that. Tears had filled her eyes and she tried to blink them back before they fell. She felt like she was like a small child getting their first bump. Only she was 21 and didn’t have a mother to running crying to, not that she wanted to.
He watched her carefully and after seeing her reaction he wished he hadn't done it, she was nearly crying from the sharp little pain, and he couldn't really blame her, he hated pinches, but he never cried over it, it was clear she felt the pain and that she was now totally and utterly freak out, so at least the were on the same level now. He sighed and looked down. "I wish I knew what to tell you." He said softly, reaching his hand out to find hers, he was just as scared as she was, then suddenly it hit him and his head shot up, he searched for her eyes, his own were panic stricken and he really couldn't believe what had shot into his head. "You can't come fighting with me, ever." He said worriedly, he put his hands on her shoulders and rubbing them softly. "If we fight together, and I get hurt..." He cringed slightly at the thought of her feeling all of the pain he went through, and him feeling every little scratch she felt, which she would never feel. The idea of the pain made his pulse increase and he had to look away for a minute, he dropped his arms and turned to face the TV, which was still quietly flashing on about some or other nature show now. "Well this is just, interesting.." He said softly, looking down to the floor and sighing deeply. He was truly lost, had no idea what was going on or how to react to it even. But at least he knew he wasn't alone in this experience.
