In-depth Analysis
Personality:
You know that guy in the movie who nobody should be friends with? The guy that is so annoying that he's almost enjoyable to have around, just so everyone has someone to dislike? Tala is that guy. He doesn't exactly strive to be rude, it just happens. He usually doesn't sound as angry as one would think he is due to what he would say to people. He just doesn't think before he speaks. With him, one needs to get past the attitude to see that he is a normal guy as opposed to a total jerk. Tala is also really sarcastic and likes to joke but if you don't know him, he'll be really quiet with you. He is new at the whole "shifter" thing and doesn't always have enough control to keep from phasing. He clings to people in the pack. Though he may not always show it, he is very enthusiastic about being a werewolf.
Tala's worst side comes out when it comes to fighting. His absolute hatred for vampires is made very obvious and no effort is made to tone it down. Sometimes this causes him to get hurt, not really thinking things through before lunging into a fight. He hasn't been in too many real fights but is always looking for trouble. He loves being in the forest and he can almost always be found as a wolf in the woods if he's missing in school.
Detailed history:
Tala was the most popular guy in school. He was that kid that could just get along with everyone for different reasons. He could adapt to any personality that he was confronted with. He had things going just the way he wanted. This all stopped when he got into high school. He started to develop a temper problem. He just couldn't control his emotions anymore and he started picking fights with everyone that annoyed him. There was no mental ailment found to him by doctors and he still wonders why he had the sudden change in personality. He suspected that it was caused from stress but decided that it wasn't something he needed to manage. People would have to deal with him, being him. It wasn't his problem.
As high school progressed, Tala got used to his overreactions, as did most students at the school. He drifted from his parents and basically became known as the jerk. Some people loved him and everybody else loved to hate him. Things really got messed up when he turned seventeen. He would get sick all the time, with mostly an insanely high fever. It caused him to start skipping school until finally he realized what it was. He became a shifter in the Quileute pack.
Tala had known about the stories since he was a young kid, growing up them, but never really took them seriously. At that point, he was quickly able to accepts what he was. In fact, he didn't even want to be human anymore. He wanted more to his life and being a shifter would open up new doors. The only thing that bothered him about shifters existing was that vampires existed too, and he hated them. He had always hated them, even before he believed that they were real.
It's been two months since Tala first phased and he still isn't used to it yet. Unless he's angry, he finds it hard to phase. Unless he's calm, he can't phase back. If he's in public, he can't let himself get mad. He avoids talking to anyone whenever he can if he's in a situation in which phasing would be a bad idea. He's a fairly strong fighter if he's concentrating on the goal but his inability to concentrate often leads to his downfall. He has always lived in La Push and has rarely even left the boundaries of the woods.

Almost...almost... the last bell was minutes from ringing and Jem could hardly keep himself contained at his desk. He needed to get home. He just had to and he was willing to kill to get there. Okay, a little melodramatic, but he was going to be pissed off if he didn't get there before his brother, Charlie. Let me tell ya, there was nothing more pathetic than two high school brothers fighting over who got the remote first, but that was the situation at hand. Normally, Jem didn't give a damn about the television, but it was raining hard as hell outside and he wasn't going to hang out in his room doing nothing for the evening. Once Charlie got to the television, it was all over and it would be occupied for the rest of the night. It was really sad that Jem wasn't interested in doing anything else while it was raining, but he really couldn't find a way to keep entertained while indoors and he wasn't about to go get soaked in the rain for no reason.
Back to the present. DING. Finally. Jem was out of the classroom before anyone could blink. He needed to grab his crap so he sprinted for his locker, knocking people into corners on the way. Yea, yea. shut it, he would call out to kids giving him nasty comments. He didn't give a damn, he really didn't. He barely gave a damn about anything other than baseball, or anyone other than Charlie. He was one turn away from his locker when he took the corner too quickly and skidded to a halt, right into some girl. Her crap flew everywhere and he instantly felt like a moron. He did have some sympathy. He just didn't enjoy showing vulnerability. That was suicide in high school. He sighed and decided that his chances of beating Charlie home were completely null so there was no harm in being a little sympathetic. Man, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-- he said while bending down to pick up her things before giving her the chance to respond.
He looked up after realizing that she hadn't yet been given the chance to say a word. As soon as he looked up, he was attracted to her. She was pretty, beautiful actually. Her facial features were just all around attractive and she didn't look like your steriotypical cheerleader-type girl in school. Probably some genius, she was. He came to the conclusion that he should stop making assumptions about her before hearing her speak and emptied his mind to hear her out.
