Achen Samuel OsaiCharacter Play-by:Ken Baumann
name: Achen Samuel Osai age: 135 gender: Male orientation: Straight race: Shapeshifter birthplace: Appalachian Mountains(the area currently within the Virginia state line.) current location: Forks, WA occupation: Doctor
personality: Achen has a seemingly complicated personality that is really no more than an expression of his ever-shifting emotions. He appears quiet to all but those who are well acquainted with him. Those few fortunate enough to know that deeper part of him still are kept from his more intimate displays of love. Often seeing him as objective and generally upholding his logic of justice, he has been considered to be cold and uncaring. This shifts when he practices his knowledge as a nurse for those who need him. Yet, his colleagues whisper that such kindness seems artificial to their eyes, while his patients seem to see it has the expression of a spirit burdened by the weight of life. His thoughts are constant and hidden behind brown eyes that seem to whisper the secrets he holds.
Achen hates those who have oppressive personalities and is often at odds with those who hold preconcieved notions of what his life should be. He is generally suspicious of anyone and few ,if any, hold his trust. Achen wars against anyone who attempts to control him or use him as if he were nothing more than a tool or weapon.
Achen sympathizes with the poor, unfortunate and children of all ages. He has an uncanny ability to judge a person when he gazes into their eyes, allowing him to have a feeling of what sort of person they are. This judgement is no more than a feeling of their general personality.
detailed history: Achen was born to one of the last pureblooded couple of the Cherokee tribe. His childhood was one of seclusion from the outside world, with only the comfort of his parents. This harbored a solitary nature that came to define Achen's social relationships. His life was simple until his twenty-forth year. He had been returning from the forest after cutting down trees in preparation for the arrival of Fall and Winter. When he enterd the clearing of his home, a strange smell pervaded the air. Anxiety gripped him and he ran to the small home his father had built. There he discovered the body of his mother and a blood trail leading out the back door. As sorrow tore at his heart, he carefully walked to the back door. He stared as he tried processing the scene of his father pinned against a tree and a strange woman tore his flesh and licked at his wounds. His father glanced at his son and, using the strength of his pain, tore one word from his throat. Run! The vampire whipped around as the sound carried across the clearing. The vampire gazed at Achen, then turned back to his father and started whispering in his ear. His eyes began to hold the horror of what the woman was saying and as she reached for his neck, he tore at her face, attempting to blind her. Achen stepped back as he watched her turn his head at an unnatural angle. In that moment, Achen's heart broke and he fell to the floor. A moment later, the woman was in front of him whispering of the terrible pleasures she would have with him. As her hand fell on his shoulder, the world went black. Achen faintly remembered the horrendous sound of stone being torn apart and crystal shattering.
Achen woke to the woman in pieces. He puzzled over what happened, until he heard the whisper of footsteps and the strange smell he now associated to the woman and her kind. He fled into the forest, fear lending him strength and speed. Later after the outran the creatures and the smell of burning flesh, he realized that he could hear things he never heard before and his body changed. From that day on, Achen learned what his body was capable of and constantly studied and trained his body to be able to defend himself and those he loved.
Achen moved into the city of New York and lived during the time of the 1920s. A golden age for the city and a time when he discovered his passion for helping people. This later lead him to nursing. In that time he learned to hide himself from the creatures he occassionally came across. Even appearing in a hospital where he smelled them so strongly, he fled the building. The strangest thing about that hospital was the golden-eyed doctor who seemed paler than all the pale faces he typically came across. He stayed away from the hospital until he left during the Great Depression.
Later, Achen joined the Army in the hopes of helping the country and protecting the children he saw going overseas and returning to their mothers in body bags. He advanced in ranks until he was a First Sergeant leading a group of boys all his own. Achen was soon shipped overseas with the boys he came to consider a family. Before the war ended, his group was pinned down somewhere in France. In desperation, Achen shifted and killed hundreds of soldiers to save his comrades. Shaking with exhaustion and covered in blood, he attempted to return to his friends only to have them fire on him. As his heart broke once more, he fled them, but fell into a ditch was a bullet pierced his leg. Moments later, a cannonball landed, burying him. That cannon saved Achen's life. The government considered him a fallen soldier and those soldiers whom he saved thought they had gone mad from the stresses of war. Achen was able to recover enough to drag himself to a fallen shelter and cave the doorway in. He stayed there and slept for days until finding his way on to a ship that brought him back to America. He traveled from the east coast to the west then, eventually turning north and finding a home in the forests of Canada. For ten years, Achen lived in solitude, honing his abilities and licking the wounds that the betrayals of those years left him with.
Achen's thoughts soon turned back to his passion for helping people. So he returned to America and gained the education to become a doctor. Since then, Achen moved around gaining a stunning knowledge of medicine and the human body. Eventually coming to settle in Washington. Here he could have a home in the less developed areas of the state, close to the forests that made him feel safe and the border into Canada.
