personality: Carlisle's most prominent personality trait
is his compassion. His compassion-motivated self-control is really so incredible that it almost crosses the line into superpower. His loneliness in the years before he changed Edward and his love for his adopted children also indicate that, like Esme, he is very family motivated. Carlisle is also very patient and non-judgmental.
Carlisle seldom speaks in harsh tones or says anything derogatory. He often offers a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and one to give advice as needed. He puts all his pride and love in tending to the sick and needy.
detailed history:Carlisle Cullen was the son of a pastor, born in England sometime in the 1640s. His mother died during birth, while his father pushed him forward to follow his footsteps. It was during a highly religious time in England, and they were repelled by vampires, witches, werewolves, and things of that sort. Innocent, completely human people were often killed during this time. When his father grew too old to do the job, he was forced to take over the group
At such a young age Carlisle was pushed into the church by his father. Although that wasn’t normal for most pastoral children. Carlisle ‘s father pushed him harder it almost felt like it was forced upon him because of the religious high that was going on in England. And because Carlisle was a only child with a single parent Carlise’s father want him to follow in his footsteps; thinking he’d have a better life if he grew up with the pastoral life. He was forced into many things in his childhood he didn’t want to go in. One of them was the Pastoral life. Soon his father forced him into taking Latin. By the time Carlisle had turned 16 he was able to speak Latin and was in the church. He joined his father burning innocent people accused for false accusations whether they were a witch ,vampire, werewolves or anything else.
When Carlisle had turned 17 he started gaining the interest of the medical world. He had disobeyed his religious life stealing medical books every now and then to read and study. While sitting at home reading one of the medical books his father walked in. Carlisle knew his father would disapprove of his new attraction for the medical world. And he was right. His father went into a rage and beat Carlisle with the thick medical books. Yelling at him and telling him “this isn’t your future nor will it ever be! Being a priest is your future only!”. After that Carlisle saw his father burn the books during a burning on of the stack. Carlisle soon hid his passion from his father still wanting to be in the medical world.
During one of the hunts, Carlisle stumbled across a true coven of vampires that had been hiding in the sewers during the day. He gathered his men and they went after the coven. Though the vampires could have fled easily, all but one did as it was too weak to resist with how thirsty it was. It bit Carlisle and the rest of them ran after it, leaving him to die on the streets. He dragged himself away, knowing they would kill him, and three days after intensifying pain woke up with a strong burn in his throat.
Carlisle hated what he had became strongly, and tried many different ways to kill himself. This included jumping off of cliffs, starving himself, walking into sunlight, and other myths that supposedly killed vampires. He stayed far away from civilization, terrified he might kill a human. He was in a cave, and was so bloodthirsty that he attacked and drained a whole herd of deer. Soon after this he found out that he could live off of the blood of animals instead of humans, and decided to take on thsi diet. He spent two whole centuries just on perfecting his thirst.
During the two centuries, Carlisle studied in Italy a bit. During his time in Italy, he came across the Volturi. He stayed with them for about a decade, and they tried to get him to switch over to the natural vampire diet. When Carlisle spent his time with the Volturi it was shortly after Elzeazar and his mate Carmen had left. Carlisle had disagreed with Volturi’s way of life. Carlisle had believed that humans should be spared and left alone. Their hopes for him to switch over failed, though they had miraculous control of their thirst around humans.
After his time with the Volturi, Carlisle moved over to the New World. He traveled there for a while, and was in Chicago, Illinois with the Spanish Influenza epidemic happened.
Carlisle was the only person that wasn’t effect by the Spanish Influenza which seemed a little to obvious. So when he moved to Chicago Carlisle posed as a doctor trying help treat those effected by the Influenza. Carlisle remembers all he studied when he was younger before his father burned the medical books. Now it was Carlisle’s turn to turn memory into practice. While treating patients there, Carlisle did a rather dangerous thing by becoming attached to a dying woman named Elizabeth Masen. Her husband had already died of the Influenza, and her son was dying along side her. Her death wish was for him to do anything within his power to save him. He had considered making a companion for years, and knew that since Edward had no one left and his mother wanted him to live, he damned him into this immortal life.
Three years later, Carlisle and Edward moved up to the state of Wisconsin. He went down to the morgue and found Esme Evenson, with her heart still beating, after she attempted suicide by jumping off a cliff. He felt the need to save her after having treated her of a broken leg a few years previously and falling in love with her. He changed her in the morgue as she had been presumed dead though her heart was beating. They soon fell in love, and were married not long after her newborn phase. After a few more years for her to control her thirst, they moved up to Rochester, New York.
It was there that Carlisle turned a young woman named Rosalie Hale, who had beaten and raped by her drunk fiance and his group of friends. He found her because the scent of her blood was there since she was left in the street to die. He tried to save her without changing her, but had to change her anyway. Later on, his first 'daughter' found a young man named Emmett Cullen who was going to die because he was mauled by a bear. He changed him at Rosalie's request.
In the 1950s, not longer after they made the treaty with the Quileutues, they gained two more members of their coven. Alice and Jasper had found them, and joined them. They learned that Alice had seen them in a vision, and learned all about them. They accepted both Alice and Jasper, even with Jasper's bloody and painful past. The next time that Carlisle and his family moved back to Forks, Washington nearly sixty years later, his first 'son' Edward fell in love with a human named Isabella Swan.
Carlisle was present when James lied to Bella and try to kill her. Him along with Edward, Alice, Jasper and Emmett saved Bella. Carlisle helped Bella and gave Edward the hardest choice when Bella was bitten by James. After that on Bella’s birthday he had helped and bandaged Bella up after Jasper tried attacking her. And explained to her his past and explained a little more about vampires. After Jasper’s little episode Carlisle decided it was wise for the family to leave Forks for awhile. After a short period of time The Olympic Coven came back to Forks to protect Bella.
