Jasper Ethan Whitlock HaleCharacter Play-by:Jackson Rathbone
name: Jasper Ethan Whitlock Hale age: eternally 20 165 gender: Male orientation: Heterosexual race: veggie vampire birthplace: Houstan Texas current location: Forks Washington occupation: High school Graduate.
personality: Jasper appears to be, at first glance, a rigid and stoic person. While this is true, in the face of danger, Jasper can be cold, hard, heartless and calculating he is generally much warmer. His rigid expressions and stiff posture occur only when humans are around - or he is uncomfortable/upset for some reason (this includes when Alice goes wilder than usual although he secretly loves it) - because Jasper has trouble resisting the smell of blood. Just like everyone, especially newborns the scent of a human causes a burning pain in his throat and a terrible unquenchable thirst.
Jasper doesn’t like being a liability, a burden for the rest of the family. He’s the one that’s constantly watched, guarded, carefully considered due to the constant temptation and readily available supply of humans. He’s used to being an asset, the person to be relied upon etc so not being able to withstand humans without the reassurance from Alice who finds it so damn easy - but then she didn’t feed on them for a hundred years prior - is frustrating.
Jasper is actually quite charming. He’s got a way with people. He’s able to persuade them, coerce them and convince them to agree to something they wouldn’t normally even without his extra abilities. He was charming as a human too and this has undoubtedly carried forwards into his vampire persona.
However due to his past, Jasper is still wary of vampires and people in general. He’s very private and guarded so only those closest to him will realise this. So far Jasper has been reserved around the Denali’s but has loosened a little since first meeting them. He has settled in well with the Cullens and is able to be his witty and playful self.
Jasper is a little mischievous. That’s probably partly why he gets on so well with pixie like Alice who’s extremely hyper and seems to be a personality that would grate against his. It doesn’t. On her wilder exploits he reigns her in, but unknown to most he sometimes encourages her and even helps her plan. It probably helps that Alice has him wrapped around his little finger.
Jasper is a soldier. That is why he can appear stoic, cold and distant. While this is not true Jasper can be frightening and intimidating when he feels like it. He knows what to use to his advantage - his ability to instil fear, to read people’s reactions and his own vampiric nature.
His empathic ability is another reason Jasper tends to be stoic and a little distant. He lives in a climate emotion and is most drained right after school. The Cullens, his family have helped him more than he could have hoped especially Alice, Carlisle and Esme. They were so accepting and forgiving it was untrue. With Alice Jasper feels hope and loved.
Jasper loves Alice more than life itself. She is his world and if he lost her he’d be devastated, and looking for revenge and not even Carlisle or anyone else would be able to stop him tearing the world apart. She gives him a reason to keep going, a reason to hope and makes him very very happy. With Alice he’s completely himself and she sees him more clearly than anyone else. At first this was very frightening for Jasper but he allowed it to happen it was one of the best decisions he ever made. With Alice Jasper is fun, kind, generous, caring, loving, witty, mischievous, and his complete charming self. He is also extremely protective and a smidgen possessive of Alice. If he could give his own life for hers and keep her out of danger he’d do it without thought.
His empathic ability means, even now, Jasper is prone to boughts of depression. During these it’s usually only Alice he’ll allow to be around and occasionally Carlisle and Esme, but only one at a time. He just needs to get away from the constant bombardment of feelings no matter how tiny or extreme.
Jasper can be a little judgemental, but then again he does have a soldier’s attitude and can over complicate things or over worry - Alice and his family. He’s not fond of Children of the Moon, the Volturi, prejudice etc. He doesn’t like it when people judge on looks since that was partly why he was turned.
He likes to gamble. He’ll rise to a challenge but not if it means endangering Alice or one of the others, and of course exposing them.
Jasper is a bit of a loner. He prefers to be alone or with the company of one or two others because it is draining and takes a heavy toll on him to feel everything all the time. he's not over romantic either. He'd prefer to sit or lie with Alice, staying close and saying nothign, just looking into her beautiful eyes. He's sentimental and romantic that way, sometimes surprising her with flowers etc. But he's a subtle kind of guy - charming but subtle with a good wit. He'd much rather be in the background anyway than the centre of attention.
Jasper can seem really very cold by the things he says. Most of what Jasper says has been weighed and calculated. His Soldier background also means he doesn't believe in sugar coating the truth and sees any given situation from all angles, hence why his ideas may differ vary from his adopted family's. He is very aware of what will get the job done fastest, quickest and easiest and what is actually best.
You can always rely on Jasper to give you the straight honest answer and is loyal. Although he loves his adopted family and would go to great lengths to protect them, he is aware they are adopted, and this will probably always be an important factor for him. He is different to them and he always will be. His reconstituted humanity allows him to function well with others and humans but he still has a firm, occasionally rigid soldier mentality with underlying aggression from his days at war. Unlike the rest of his siblings Jasper likes being a vampire in essense, he just doesn't like what he had to do in his first chance at his new life.
Despite this Jasper, over the years, has managed to become a gentile soul and very sweet natured most of the time. detailed history: Jasper Hale was born Jasper Whitlock in Texas to a loving family of upper lower class. They weren't extremely poor, living day to day in utter scraps, completely starving and thirsty but they didn't exactly have a lot of money. Unlike Rosalie there were no lavish weddings or dreams of big homes. They wanted only food and a roof over their heads that would suit their means.
Life had been hard, growing up in the 1800s with not a lot of money. HIs parents were firm, strict at times, but loving and caring. They did their best to indulge their children without making them spoiled or demanding. It was his father who was particularly strict and to this day the one that affected Jasper the most and sticks out in his mind. he taught him never to give up, to have fierce determination and stand up for what he believes but also that nothing he does will ever be good enough for him.
Jasper swayed between being a loner and having a lot of friends. He connected with people easily even as a young child. He usually got what he want, knowing instinctively to be polite and respectful. It was what his parents taught him - protect ladies, be polite, respectful, punctual don't be cheeky, arrogant, over-confident, be modest and have some humility. These qualities were ingrained in Jasper from a small child. Being poor makes you grow up far too quickly and Jasper was always helping around the house with responsibiliites and looking for a bit of work to assist in the money department. He loved his siblings greatly, even when he was fighting with his older brother. They play fought a lot, dreaming of a life of glory and honour. They also argued a lot too since Jared had been jealous of the attention the younger sibling had obtained whilst Jasper had been rather taken with his younger sister and brother. He generally thought they were amazing tiny little creatures and did his best to keep them happy and from harm. He was the one to inform them that whilst their father was very harsh at times he meant what was best for them. Jared had a more cavalier attitude.
It became apparent over the years Jasper liked to please people and although wasn’t one to approach others for conversation he could hold his own and provide good material for discussion. He was very warm, fun and friendly despite preferring to be on his own. He developed admirable skills in charm and was always very persuasive without people realising he was subtly manipulating them. He once convinced their father to allow them two birthday gifts after making him feel guilty for caning them after they had rebelled. He was fond of corporal punishment although it was almost always unnecessary. Jasper had only been angry because of his sister Marion.
When he was 17 he charmed his way into the Confederate Army in 1861, telling them he was 20. Jasper, the charming young Southern Gentleman soon climbed the ranks, settling at Major - the youngest in history, even ignoring his real, 3 years younger, age. It wasn't until he went to Gavelston, a battle which was more of a skirmish, that Jasper's life ended and his vampiric one began. He was in charge of evacuating the women and children from the area. One his way back to Gavelston he met Maria, Nettie and Lucy - three vampires, one out for vengence and the others for feeding grounds. He was turned because Maria found him compelling - probably due to his extra ability - and because he was a Major in the army. They had been the most beautiful creatures he had ever seen before and had been breath taken. He had no idea that his life was over.
Jasper began life as a vampire in a world full of hatred, vengence and bloodthirst. he didn't know there was any other way to live. Maria trained the newborns better than anyone else ever bothered and Jasper survived the first 18 months, continuing to prove useful. HIs first fights were with the other newborns, and he proved to be the quickest and strongest. Soon he was put in charge of them. His participiation was vital as his calming effect meant Maria, Nettie and Lucy could work more closely and better, as well as ensuring less fighting amongst the newborns. Jasper took over in training the newborns and was excelled at producing well oiled fighting machines. He also turned and selected a few humans himself, careful never to bring in too many at once until they had settled and were more stable with their emotions (without his influence).
Jasper in many ways loved and adored Maria, and others - reasons yet unknown to him - he did not. He was a valuable asset, the only one to survive 18 months while the rest were killed. Maria and the newborns took over Monterry and Jasper stayed, her right hand man, defending her against Nettie and Lucy when they inevitabley betrayed her. Even then Jasper demonstrated the capacity for great loyalty and trust - but only towards Maria. Over the years Jasper became Maria’s lover. He had thought what they had was real for he was sure she felt the same as he did. She was his favourite and he knew it but past punishments reminded him Maria was still highly dangerous and quick to anger.
Over the years Jasper had been punished more than once. He had been starved of blood as a newborn for making a rookie mistake, making him more aggressive and vicious. It was repeated later after half their army was slaughtered in an altercation with another coven’s newborns when intelligence was incorrect. He was also bitten deeply to inject as much venom as possible when he almost got them all killed. They had all occurred when he was a young vampire and Nettie and Lucy were still around. Jasper also had an arm ripped off by a particularly powerful newborn when he was 40.
Jasper remained clueless about his defined ability. He didn't know what to call it or whta it was really. Over time Jasper grew tired and sick of the fighting, the blood and the gore. Slowly he slipped into depression unaware of why.
Jasper bonded well with a three year old vampire called Peter, who fled with another called Charlotte. Five years later they returned for an increasingly depressed and dark Jasper who had lost almost all of his humanity. They told him of another way, where they wouldn't have to fight for surivival or constantly watch their backs. Jasper left without turning back.
It was after allowing Peter and charlotte to escape that Jasper realised Maria did not care for him the same as he cared for her. It became starkly apparent she was just using him far more cleverly than she used everyone else. Being her favourite had spared his life but not from the punishment. Denied feeding until ravenous and weak, she allowed as many vengeance filled newborns to bite him and fill with venom. It had been agony but even after his Jasper had no desire to take revenge or control of the coven. He only sank deeper in depression until he left with his friend, the only one to provide decent conversation, even as a newborn.
But with the deepening depression Jasper eventually left them and wandered off on his own. He no longer wanted to kill, not even humans that were so tasty, that he considered nothing more than food. He tried to hunt less often, going longer without sustenance, but unlike Carlisle he's not as strong in that department and never considered attacking an animal - he didn't know it was possible. Plus he was used to killing humans, and thought it was the only way.
In Philadelphia Jasper finally met Alice, immediately taking her hand, taken with the little pixie. She told him of Carlisle and his family, the life they lead, convincing Jasper that was possible. They spent two years together before finding them - Alice integrating first and Jasper more slowly. Alice did wonders for Jasper but even when they met Carlisle Jasper was still very depressed. The climate the Cullens offered did wonders for Jasper too, over time making him more at peace.
Peace, of course, did not come easy. Peace was a rather long road and difficult to find. There were times when Jasper thought he'd never get there. To this day he still isn't as human as the others and never will be but he's learned to accept that it's OK that he isn't. Part of him doesn't watn to be exactly like his family anyway. He was a monster, he has to potential to revert and he's not human.
It wasn't an easy adjustment. Jasper had spent too long with the requirement of looking over his shoulder or ending up dismembered and the pieces burned. He had spent too long dealing with over zealous and ravenous newborns, and crushingly firm and sadistic Coven leaders to just accept that The Cullens were more a family than a Coven, united by the love and the desire to stay together. He often snapped and snarled at them out of instinct and defensiveness than anything else. he had no desire to harm them and any uneasiness on their part was justified. He, of course, always apologized after realising he had done so and was concerned about punishment and repriment. he had, after all, snapped at established members and a few times at Carlisle himself. He was constantly thinking of escape routes, where each coven member was located, statistics and probabilities of being attacked, how quickly he could move in such instances etc.
Jasper hadn't felt comfortable without Alice around, sticking to her like a limpit until he had settled - it had taken a decade at least. She was, after all, even if the Cullens didn't realise it at the time, the source of his sanity. he never did well on his own anyway. He learned that Carlisle and Esme were the nicest vampires he had ever met and that he had a place here with the Cullens. It was both a comforting and frightening thought. It took another few years to consider them family and another 8 before he even considered actually calling them ‘mother’, ‘father’ etc. Even now such terms are rare.
Whenever he slipped Jasper would worry about them turning around and telling him to leave. It was a horrible dilemma. He wouldn't want Alice to stay of course, but he didn't want her to leave either. She had spent so long looking for them and she was so happy. He'd rather she stayed than anything else. It was during slips that he'd half heartedly attempt to push even Alice away but she was always the one who could get through to him. Luckily the Cullens were pretty understanding. Jasper was trying very hard. He hates disappointing them.
The Bella situation had Jasper ill at ease. he knew perfectly well what the Volturi were capable of, it was dangerous for all of them. He was still struggling with the 'humans are food...no they are friends' mentality and the situation was highly dangerous for them. He did point out to Rose though, that even if they were human the first place police would look if Bella was dead was the boyfriend anyway. he hadn't meant to be callous about it. It was just true. On the otherwhand Bella made Edward feel happy and much lighter than he ever had done since he had known him. Jasper could only view that as a good thing. Plus Alice felt strongly about her too.
Initially Jasper had wanted to kill Bella because she was causing problems with his family. Only he and Rosalie seemed to be on the same page. It was nothing personal against Bella but he hadn’t wanted the volturi’s attention, her talking or causing his family the pain she was in the beginning. It was Alice who talked him around in the only way he could. He felt how happy Bella made Edward and hoped everything would work out for the best. He didn’t have anything against her and from what he could tell from what Alice told him, she was a nice girl.
Jasper agreed to help Bella when James tracks her because Edward was in love and Alice viewed her as a best friend already. He also didn't want the girl dead anymore. She was different from other humans. She wasn't afraid, which he thought was both stupid, brave, insane and intruiging. Edward's inability to read her mind had caused some interest too. He travels with them, helping to hide Bella and later kill James, too distracted and focussed on his demise to think about Bella bleeding all over the floor at the Ballet studio.
Jasper later attacks Bella at her birthday party after she gets a simple papercut and has to be taken far away into the forest before he finds himself agian. this caused a bout of depression, guilt and remorse. He knew he couldn't go near Bella to apologize personally and so stuck with apologizing to Edward and trying to make sure he knew he meant it. He didn't really want to kill Bella. He felt terribly guilty when the family had to move, knowing it was his fault for all the pain. He worries greatly over Alice when she's in Volterra.
Jasper assists in fighting the newborn army, recognising the signs after deciding that that was the only explanation. Reluctantly although trusting Edward's judgement, instructs also the shifters on killing newborns. He tries his best to ensure that Alice has nothing to do of course when the time comes, earning him a few more bites but those he is proud of. He earned them doing something honourable. He had both liked and hadn’t liked teaching his family to fight. On the one had it would mean they had some knowledge to defend themselves with, but on the other he was concerned he would go too far and actually hurt them. It brought back both fond and horrible memories of his younger years. Jasper always had liked fighting.
When the Volturi decided to visit Jasper and Alice have to flee partly because of Aro's fixation towards abilities and partly because leaving the rest of the family in the dark was the only way. They travel all over the world searching for hybrids to prove that Renesmee can't be dangerous and is not the only one.
Bella's inexplicable control confounds Jasper stirring some envy too. He knew that the others, although clean (mostly) had strugged with the scent but Bella remeans more or less unaffected. She has forced him to reconsider his struggling attitude and is now determined to be more positive. In fact he can now recognize different scents and scratches and very minor cuts don’t tend to throw him over the edge but he does have to leave (at least he as the presence of mind to do so now). He can only hope it's a step forwards. Power:Empathic manipulation. Jasper is a powerful empath. Empathy is the ability to feel the emotions of others. There is no way to switch this power off. Jasper is subjected to the emotions of others all day, every day. At school, depending on the day, his own emotions can be squashed down to hte point where he struggles to find them, making him seem in pain, cold and apathetic. Other times he is able to distance himself and retain a sense of normalcy. After having a break from school, the first year or two is always the most difficult.
Jasper can also manipulate the emotions of others. He always was a charming fellow and now he can literally speed up or slow down your system. He knows all the nuances and can make you feel anything. He can't change unique emotions like love, but could generate a high level of lust or arousal for someone else. fears:Maria: She is a complete nightmare, a monster of the worst kind. She would be having molded Jasper into much the same. She is extremely determined and not easily distracted or dissuaded from her goals. If she decides she wants him back for any reason she’ll do practically anything to make sure he goes.
+ Disappointment:: Jasper fears disappointing his family by killing a human through blood lust.
+ Liability :: He fears being a liability forever. He's unsure whether he'll ever be able to resist the blood of a human.
+ Losing Alice ::While this fear extends to all Cullens it was mostly concentrated on Alice who is his love, his light and hope in the world.
+ Being alone: Jasper doesn't want to be alone again. It's not good for his state of mind. strengths:+ Reflexes: Jasper has amazing reflexes. He’s quite possibly the second fastest in the family. He rarely reveals how fast he can actually be unless it’s a dire situation ( for example stopping James from killing Bella). He can move, twist and turn with great agility and is highly nimble.
+ Clear and level headed: Often accused of being cold hearted and calculating Jasper is very clear, very concise and precise with everything he does. He thinks of every scenario, every possible situation and outcome. He knows the best way to get the job done, the easiest and what would be ideal but not necessarily a good idea. When in ‘Soldier Mode’ Jasper does not think of the feelings and reactions of others. He is a military mind and views the world differently from his family raised adopted siblings.
+ Listens: Jasper is a very good listener. He is more than content to sit back and allow you to talk away about worries and issues etc. He won’t complain and may even initiate the therapy session. You can also trust him to keep his mouth shut about anything you talk about – with only a few exceptions. He’s good at judging what’s fair game and what won’t be appreciated repeated.
+ Reliable/ Loyal: He’s a reliable and loyal guy. He’s never one for being in charge and is more than happy to allow Alice, or the others to do the talking for him. He’s happier to stand back and let someone else take the attention and the heat. He’s just more comfortable in the back ground. His quiet style allows him to see and hear what others don’t and he mostly keeps such information to himself. If Jasper is asked in confidence or otherwise for advice or to do something he’ll respond appropriately. Feelings may be hurt as a consequences of actions or the situation but he never deliberately attempts to cause anyone pain.
+ Tolerant: Jasper is a highly tolerant guy, often allowing Alice to drag him around shops, dress him up and dictate is wardrobe. He suffers the taunts and jokes from his family with grace and ease although it may earn them a growl or two, or reciprocation.
+ Sweet/ charming: Jasper is a sweet guy once you look past all the harsh roughness. He likes people to be happy and is more than willing to make them happy. He’s of the mind that your problems are your problems but if you ask for help then he’s there. He holds doors open, pulls out chairs, is very polite and courteous. He can put anyone at ease and talk people around. He has a natural charm he simply can’t help.
+ Combat:: Jasper has had more than enough experience when it comes to fighting. He spent 100 years at war with other covans and training new borns who were far stronger than he. He's a fierce warrior and even his appearance - covered in a myriad of crescent bites - proves this. With the sharp eyes of a vampire Jasper is intimidating and a warning that he is not a creature to mess with.
+ Strategy:: Jasper is very good at planning. He proved to be invaluable to Maria, his sire, in the South during the wars. He could easily plan which newborn should go where and when and why. He was very good at implimenting her plans and helping create them.
+ Organisation :: Jasper easily organised newborns all the time for decades. He is very neat, methodical and organised. he knows how to get people motiviated, enthused and keep them going without over exciting them.
+ Calming:: Jasper is a vital component to life with a vampire clan. IN the south Jasper could smooth over emotions of newborns as well as Maria, Nettie and Lucy. Now he can calm irritated emotions of his family, placate them and generally make them more placid with each other.
+ Observation:: Jasper has a sharp mind and keen eyes. He can notice a difference in a person easily, partly due to his unique ability but also a change in a room, perhaps a piece of furniture has been moved to a slightly different position. If you need extreme scrutiny Jasper's your vampire
+ Empathy:: His ability of course is an asset. He can sooth poeple, make them happier, calmer, frightened or even angry should he see it fit. He can also use it to judge what their reactions would be to something, know if they are feeling down and judge what the appropriate measure would be. Forcing them to feel is only a temporary solution since it wears off once he leaves
+ Soldier:: Jasper was a soldier so he gets things done. He's efficient, can follow orders without quibbling, doesn't backchat or argue, is organised and can be cold hearted and ruthless. He can concentrate on the bigger picture without being distracted by the little things in life.
+ Multilingual: He can speak English, Spanish, French and is learning Russian.
weaknesses:Over Protective: Jasper is one over protective husband and brother. He’ll do what it take to ensure the safety of his wife and adoptive family to the point where it would shock and horrify them. So it is entirely true to say he is ruthless too.
+ Aggressive: Despite being sweet natured Jasper did spent a lot of time killing, fighting and maiming so it is understandable he has lots of aggression and is quite scary when angry. If he’s going to be angry his temper is quick to flare and slow to dampen but he can and still will listen to Carlisle, Edward, Alice and the others (but the named are most likely to get through to him (if in doubt shout for Alice)).
+ Combat:: Jasper has had more than enough experience when it comes to fighting. He spent 100 years at war with other covans and training new borns who were far stronger than he. He's a fierce warrior and even his appearance - covered in a myriad of crescent bites - proves this. + Stubborn: Jasper is an extremely stubborn vampire. Once he’s put his mind to something it’s almost impossible to make him change it unless you happen to be Alice. He can be immovable and thick headed and like a petulant child almost on the rare occasion.
likes:+ Baseball: What true American vampire doesn’t like a good dose of baseball. The required weather for it is stormy which, in Jasper’s opnion, provides the best atmosphere for the game. He likes to win of course but the game itself is just as fun. The competition with his adopted siblings kept things fresh, upbeat and lively. Cheating always happens, whether he manipulates emotions, Edward reads minds or Alice looks to see what happens next. It drives Esme batty.
+ Pleasing others: Jasper’s a sweet guy really and likes to make sure everyone around him is happy. He’ll do things he doesn’t like particularly to placate others, because there’s no one else to do them or because it keeps him occupied. He genuinely likes others to be happy and often has the urge to slip people a dose of happiness although he generally refrains from doing so. It’s only calm he doses on a regular basis since anger can make him quite violent and unstable.
+ Hunting: Jasper always liked hunting. He liked hunting humans best when he was young. At first the harsh beating of their hearts, the thudding of it, the gush of blood, the rush of air in and out of lungs was exhilarating. As his ideals began to change Jasper realised tormenting them was cruel and nasty and then the entire idea turned sour. He still likes hunting animals. The trees blurring, the scents mingling, it’s all part of the experience.
+ Spanish: Jasper was fluent in Spanish because of Maria and his time in New Mexico. He loves the romance language and it tends to slip out when he’s extremely frustrated. He prefers to use it, not so people don’t understand what he’s saying but because what he’s saying generally isn’t polite and he doesn’t want to offend anyone. It’s just a beautiful language all around.
+ Wrestling with Emmett: At first Jasper had been completely unable to wrestle with Emmett because his reflexes and instincts had been too sharp. He had been extremely uncomfortable with anyone touching him and there would be no way he would react well to anyone ‘jumping’ him. He had been concerned he would accidentally bite or dismember him. When he began to trust his new family Jasper began to enjoy Emmett’s company and his love for wrestling was infectious.
+ Fighting: Jasper always did like proper fighting. He found it fun and a good tool against the vicious newborns. It became a reminder of his horrible past but even that couldn’t erase his like for it. He loves being the best at what he does.
+ Doting on Nessie: How could he possibly not love spoiling his niece? She’s precious, special and unique. He doesn’t mind protecting her and he always gets to give her back in the end. He likes being the Uncle and it’s a brilliant role. He always gets to give her back in the end too.
+ Protecting his family: He is the one in the best position to protect the Olympic Coven and he does his best to do just that. He likes putting his skills to good use. He had liked teaching them to fight because it allowed him to demonstrate his skills but more because it would make him feel a little better if trouble stirred and they knew the basics. He prefers to put himself in danger than allow his other family members to put themselves at risk when they were at a greater disadvantage.
+ Betting: Jasper likes placing bets partly because Emmett enjoys them so much. It’s fun to have some friendly rivalry between friends. He likes winning of course but losing doesn’t bother him either.
+ Assisting Alice in secret:: Jasper has a lot of fun helping Alice cause some mayhem and let her take the blame for it. He usually tries to reign her in with her more bizzare and outrageous ideas but generally he's a bit mischevious and likes to cause a bit of havoc himself. He is more subtle than Alice, one liners and casual comments with the occasional well thoguht out prank but helping Alice is one of his favourite things to do. (He can always pretend she roped him into it. He is her husband after all and she can be terrifying).
+ Alice::Alice is one of his favourite things in the world, for obvious reasons. She makes him laugh and open up even when he feels like shutting down. She's usually the one to keep him going, reassuring him that this is something he can do. She is the love of his life and one of the most precious things in the world.
+ Carlisle and Esme::While he loves and likes his siblings his 'parents' take a special place. They accepted him with ease and were always very supportive of him and his past. They accepted that he had once been a killer, a warrior amongst their kind and was now willing and determined to conform to their ways. Esme had been loving and giving, kind, generous and caring. She had made him feel like a son, wanted and loved while back in his early days he felt like a necessity. Carlisle, of course, is the main reason, besides Alice, he is a vegetarian. He as a great amount of respect for Carlisle who was able to turn and resist draining Edward, Esme, Rosalie and Emmett dry. Jasper does not have that strength.
+ The Denalis::Jasper is not overly friendly with the Denali's but they are other Vegetarian vampires and he gets on well with the sisters. He respects them also for sticking to the strict and meagre diet. They are also pleasant company. With both them and the Cullens Jasper has felt happier than he ever has.
+ Fast cars::It seems to be a part of being a vampire. Speed is a must. It's also a guy thing too. Alice though, shares his love which is brilliant. Jasper prefers sleek, cool yet unassuming cars - although he may be seen driving one that could be considered flashy, due to Alice's influence
+ Violin/guitar/singing::They all play music in some form or other. The snag of being immortal and unable to sleep is having a lot of spare time. Jasper chose to learn the violin because it could reflect his sorrow, his depression but also hope, the promise of future and happiness. He also likes the guitar because it can be a bit of everything and he has a tendency to hum and sing along with the music when alone.
+ Solitude:: A product of his empathic ability means Jasper prefers to be alone, or with one person at least. Feeling everyone's emotions including his own can be very waring, so it's not uncommon for Jasper to be distant or absent. he makes sure to inform them when he's feeling more overwhelmed than usual. this is usually worse right after attending school due to the extreme emotions teenagers can feel.
+ Being part of a family :: The Cullens make Jasper feel more than welcome, loved and cared for. They are a strong family unit, able to tolerate each others differences, quirks, habits and flaws much more easily than Carniverous Vampires. Jasper had went to them depressed and now he could only describe himself as happy.
+ Academia::Jasper likes learning new subjects. One of hsi favourites his history. He has a particular interest on studying the subject from the perspective of the present looking at the past, rather than living it. He likes music because its soothing and has been known to compse a piece or too, but Edward is the best muscian in the family. Jasper also likes the law, business, and learning other languages.
+ Success::Jasper likes being useful, succeeding at whatever he puts his mind to and doing it well. This includes betting, competitions etc
+ Maria: Part of Jasper will always love his creator Maria. There is nothing which can be done to change that. Once he had thought it was real but came to realise she was just using him like she used everyone else. With that revealed his heart was broken and he now views her bittersweetly. She remains a friend, but one he’d rather never see again. + Peter and Charlotte: Peter is the main focus of Jasper’s like. In decades he had provided the only worthwhile conversation around, even as a newborn. He proved to be an invaluable asset for the coven and a friend. Jasper liked him so much he risked dire punishment for allowing him to leave with Charlotte. Charlotte herself later proved to be a good loyal friend and a a reliable source of happiness. She is a very pleasant person to be around.
+ Empathy: Without it Jasper would not have survived in the South – he is half certain. Without he would not have been able to assist in removing his adopted family from sticky situations and he would never ever have met Alice because he wouldn’t have felt the inclination to stop drinking human blood. It is a highly useful skill and he likes living in a very positive climate. He needs these emotions now. dislikes:+ Maria: Maria had used him and he didn’t even see it happening. He had loved her (part of him still does) very much and knowing she never saw him as anymore than a highly valuable and highly useful tool hurt. He hates her for allowing him, enforcing that the Southern way was the only way to live. He hadn’t been given a choice or known anything better. He wonders what he would have chosen straight off if he had.
+ People threatening his family: Although Jasper can be really sweet he does have some anger issues and threatening his family is one of the ways which brings out the animal. Even whilst angry he is still in control and is very calculated about how he plans to hurt anyone even making noise about hurting the other coven members. He doesn’t like to be angry and he hates the thought of any of them being hurt because he failed to protect them.
+ School: all those emotions, all those delicious scents torture Jasper. It is no surprise he looks like he is always in pain: he is. Between the burning in his throat, and the emotions to the point where he doesn’t feel a thing anymore, it is all very wearing and harsh on him. He wonders how Edward survives with all those voices clanging away inside his skull.
+ Depression: It always happens after killing, or nearly killing a human. He doesn’t want to kill them but does at the same time. He is always torn and that is what hurts the most. He hates not being strong enough to resist while the rest of his adopted family have little problems.
+ School Councillors: On more than one occasion concern has been raised over Jasper’s behaviour citing visits to the school councillor who is always condescending, patronising and of no help whatsoever. They try several different ways to get the same answer and when they consistently fail blame him for their lack of success. They try to plant ideas and make a lot of crap up.
+ rap music
+ People trying to use his past to hurt him or others: Should someone from his past come along (besides Peter or Charlotte) they may be inclined to use knowledge from such a time to divide him and his coven. Jasper does not like the thought of Maria sending newborns to try and tempt or force him back, or coming herself and using pieces of information to attempt to shock his new coven.
+ Excuses:: For Jasper an explanation is fine, but do not make excuses. If you've made a mistake face that, don't hide behind sometimes else. Jasper himself, could make an excuse for not being as strong as his siblings, less controlled by saying he not only has to deal with his own thirst but theirs as well. But he does not for he finds this to be selfish and unworthy. have the respect to apologize and acknowledge you were in the wrong rather than trying to run your way or lie, out of a bad situation that you got yourself in, in the first place.
+ liability:: All the other members of the Olympic Covan can be around humans with relative ease but even after decades of pratice Jasper is still finding it insanely difficult. This is greatly frustrating and a weakness for all the family. He doesn't want to cause any trouble for them.
+ Burden:: This of course is linked with the above. Jasper hates feeling like a weight, something to be carried and constantly helped along. He's used to doing the helping not being carried.
+ This Empathic Ability :: In a way Jasper does like it as it gives him power, an edge and more importantly to smooth over feelings of discontent amongst the group. However he doesn't just feel one person, but everyone and all their emotions. A person can feel more than once so multiply that by a hundred. It is very waring and very tiring. It is an intrusion; an invasion of privacy which Jasper feels is a violation. It’s not one he can help since he is unable to just switch it off and on. Also the depression which comes with being empathic isn’t something he likes either.
+ Crowds:: A large mass of people aggravates his empathy. It can make him tired, or more frustrated than usual which may lead him to snap at someone who doesn't deserve it. He therefore likes to stay away from places with large crowds unless he has no choice because it is easier to handle fewer emotions. He also just naturally likes being alone. He’s not an overly social person despite his charm.
+ Disappointing Alice :: It doesn't happen often but like in any relationship, especially one that lasts as long as theirs does and will there's bound to issues occasionally - rarely - but it happens. Jasper also tends not to use his mojo on her - for one she doesn't need brightening up - and two it's only fair. He'll use it when she's angry at someone else though. He doesn't like seeing her angry.
+ Feeling helpless :: Jasper wants to be able to protect his family esp Alice and Esme at all costs. Emse really is like a mother despite being younger than he and Carlisle is like a father too. he doesn't like disapopinting either of them or benig uanble to help.
+ People joking about his lack of control :: They mean well, but the quickest way to make Jasper irritated, edgy, defensive and angry is to joke about his control issues. He'll accept a jibe or two but continuing that line of thought gets you into trouble very fast. While he won't cause permanent damage to his brothers he will attack them in punishment - and he is the best fighter.
+ Seeing Alice hurt/in pain etc :: She's is world and anything that troubles or bothers her, bothers him too. He'll hurt anyone who upsets her - unless its a relative - and is very protective of the small vampire.
+ failing/losing:: Jasper dislikes it when he slips up and attacks/kills a human. He's committed himself to the vegetarian way and really does, honestly want to succeed. He also dislikes losing bets and challenges. He's quite competetive.
+being backed into a corner: Jasper doesn’t like this figuratively or literally. He likes the freedom to chose whether he wants to reply or over his own actions. Being cornered makes him aggressive and reveals a nasty side. Meeting new people or being thrown into new situations makes Jasper feel vulnerable and uncertain and more than a little shy.
+ Meeting new people: They make him nervous. It’s a new empathic network he’s never encountered before. He’s familiar with the ones in his adopted family and knows the nuances, strengths and patterns well but that is not the case with someone new. They also may have an ability of their own and their motives are always questionable. It keeps his guard up and his training kicks in hard.
+ Not being punished: Jasper was used to severe and often excessive punishments for mistakes, accidents and failures. It came to the point where not being so was very confusing and bewildering for him, to the point where he almost needed to be punished. It affirmed his status as did the awards. The punishments of course only served to make him distrustful of everyone; they may say one thing but do they mean another? Will they do another?
facial appearance:His eyes are close set, caramel and his skin white porcelain. He has dimples when he smiles, though he generally half smirks and his eyes are either cold and hard or hold a warm twinkle. His face does have one scar. clothing:Jasper as a very formal appearance. He is almost always in a suit of some kind, usually a designer label. The suits are always tailored, well fitting, slim line, grey or black suits. Very occasionally will he be seen wearing jeans and a hoody, all of dark colours. Jasper will never wear a bright colour – the brightest being beige. All his top half clothing cover his arms to hide the scars and he generally likes them better than short sleeves. His shoes area always patent leather, sometimes matt, sometimes shiny and are highly comfortable. At school he is less formal. build: lean but muscular. marks/scars: Jasper is covered in crescent shaped scars - ribs, arms, legs, some of his back and feet. species appearance: vegetarian powers:Empathic manipulation.
There is always the risk if Jasper is feeling particularly strongly about something that he will 'bleed' his emotions onto others - distress, anxiety, depression, extreme happiness etc.
your name: Shelke age: adult how long have you been roleplaying?: nearly 3 years how did you find us?: umm.....lion lamb? codeword:
roleplay sample: Strange. Alice was definitely one strange, minute, tiny little vampire. Jasper was entirely certain he had not met another so odd yet somehow enchanting and endearing. There was something about Alice that was powerfully alluring. He wondered, just for a moment, if this was how humans felt when they came across their kind. Jasper tried to remember how he felt when he had met Maria, Nettie and Lucy. They had been mysterious and utterly beautiful. Until this moment Jasper Whitlock had not met another so beautiful or mesmerizing for Alice truly was mesmerizing. Jasper found he just could not look anywhere else. The diner never had interested him in the first place and how he had an extra incentive to maintain the human facade. He had known ever since the waitress had lain down their refreshments that the light brown colored liquid was swimming in a small easily broken mug. Jasper had paid it little attention for it was insignificant in his eyes. There was something, someone, much more important right before his eyes. It made the coffee cup seem rather useless and obsolete. Never before had he wondered what someone would look like in the sun. he never had seen their kind in the sun. Jasper knew instinctively they weren't about to melt into goo or burst into fiery flames but beyond that he had no idea. He never had had a reason to wonder before.
Amazing. Truly amazing. Jasper wasn't sure if she was amazing him or if he was simply amazing himself. Her tiny reached up and was in his hair yet he did not pull away. The thought didn't even cross his mind. IN fact a tiny purr rumbled in his throat which had him ducking his head in what could only be described as embarrassment. Jasper knew then the decision of whether to leave or stay was not a decision at all. It wasn't even a choice. The only option was to stay because although his mind was confused and thinking clearly his heart was firmly here. It was bizarre. His life was turning out to be very bizarre. Jasper had thought his heart had stopped working long ago yet this one vampire was (metaphorically) making it beat again. Jasper imagined it thudding harshly, loudly in his chest, his lungs sucking in air. She was an amazing beauty. So tiny. So sweet. Jasper had never been so attracted to another before. She even smelled enticing.
Alice was promising the impossible yet from her lips it did not seem so distant and unreal. She was entirely sincere and genuine. Even if she was incorrect, delusional, wrong, she believed it with all her heart and that was admirable. She was brave enough to approach him, someone who didn't know her, knowing it would be difficult for him, knowing there was a slim possibility he might break her heart before he knew what he was breaking and walk out the glass paneled door. But Jasper found he could not do this. He had already decided to stay when she informed him she needed him. Loved him. Jasper couldn't help the instinctual reaction to pull away. While he felt very flattered, very honoured he also wondered how she could love someone so brutal, so harsh, so unforgiving. He killed on both sides without scruples, without morals and with very very little regret. Alice seemed so nice, so sweet, so kind. Jasper couldn't feel an evil motive inside. He just knew she was being truthful, honest, sincere. He found his hard wary, confused eyes softening into affection. He found his lips quirking up into a smile. She had warmed his heart without even trying.
So animals. Alright. He supposed they were acceptable. Humans could live without eating meat even if they had to take a million supplements. Jasper had heard of vegetarians in passing and hadn't really understood the pint. Animals were their natural food source as humans were to vampires but he guessed the point was all living creatures deserved a chance at life without being farmed. Only humans weren't being farmed and it was technically just another risk they faced in the world. Plenty of humans lived to be old. There were lots of grandparents out there but now he thought about it, it must be horrible to lose a child. To lose a father and a mother. A sister. Unfortunately Jasper knew he wouldn't be able to see them as significant and important for quite some time but he'd try. On the other hand he was not sure about the whole family thing. how could they stand it? Mated pairs, yes, but they were different. Occasionally they allowed, at most, two other vampires to run with them but they always moved on alone eventually. But then again, they fed on animals so why not add more weirdness to the mix. Jasper was very glad he decided to stop at this diner, even if she had seen it coming.
Jasper moved his chair around so he was right next to her. Tentatively he raised his left to brush the back of his fingers against her cheek gone and a finger down the curve of her ear. "You are a fascinating miniature creation," Jasper admitted, shrinking back in embarrassment. She seemed to make him shy which was odd, very odd for him, because while he didn't live in the limelight he certainly wasn't one to shy away from attention if it was bestowed upon him. He had been a Major in the army after all. Yet here he was feeling shy. It was ... strange. There was that word again but it was true. "I'll stay," Jasper nodded. "I'd like to love you too.".
