Hunting always helped Edward relax, or atleast it did for a little while. He needed to hunt, the day at school near her had driven him close to crazy. He'd forgotten how...fragrant she was. It was like the first time he'd met her all over again. Except this time he'd remembered his manners, meaning she didn't think he was quite as scary as back then. Or atleast that had been his aim. It still frustrated him, not being able to hear her thoughts. Catching the scent of an elk, Edward crouched down low and beared his teeth. His vampiric instincts took over as he set off into a sprint.
Low and quiet, he swiftly pounced onto the back of the elk, sinking his teeth sharply into the animals elk. It was warm and soothing, taming the fire in his throat. It hadn't been long since he last hunted, infact it had only been 24 hours. But he was taking every precaution when it came to being near Bella. Even though they weren't together, he'd hate himself more if he hurt her, or worse.
Finishing off a second elk, Edward felt full. He had no need to hunt anymore tonight, but really he didn't fancy heading home and facing his family. They all knew how hard it was for him right now, and it made him sick listening to their thoughts of pity and sympathy. All of them were trying to hide it, but every now and then a thought would slip through. They shouldn't have to try, if things were back to how they were everything would be fine. Edward walked for a while, heading in no particular direction, lost in thought and confusion. He was sure he wouldn't still feel like this, especially after seeing her. The truth was, he wanted her now more then ever.
Coming to a stop, he realised where he was. At the border. The place that divided him from the mutt. If only stepping over to their side he wouldn't risk the lives of his family. It was that thought, and that thought alone that kept him from hunting the pup down. He would happily do it otherwise.
Sitting carefully on a tree stump nearby, Edward waited and watched. Surely they would notice him being so close to the border. And he hoped that Jacob would be the one to find him. It would be his pleasure to teach the mutt a thing or two. Frowning in disgust as the wind blew through the trees, he caught a whiff of wet dog. How Bella could stand that smell was beyond him, the dirty savage creatures. Bella was risking her life just as much with them as if she were still with him.
