A chill ran up her spine as the car crossed the line into La Push. Something seemed a little off, but she brushed it off as a little nothing. Cassidy asked around at the clinic where the best place to chill out around here would be. About seventy people told her that First Beach was heavenly no matter the weather. Being an East Coast girl, she didn't know how much she'd like the whole, black beaches, covered in stones that have been rounded by the tides. She would much rather have her milky-green, gross looking bays that are only fun when the sun shines. And sand. Lots of sand. But it was rather hard to go out on those bright days now. Seeing as, well, the sparkling problem. No amount of reassuring that it was body-glitter would ever work in that situation. And she wouldn't be able to go in the water because the self-tan lotion would come off and she'd look paler than pale. People would mistake her for a corpse that washed up on shore.
Her beat up old Jeep puttered to a stop in the parking lot of the dusty-black beach. The girl’s eyes lit up. It was a lot more beautiful then she imagined. And she kind of liked it more than she would be inclined to admit. After unbuckling and taking a step out of her baby she took a deep breath to smell the salty breeze. The thick air swirled in and out of her lungs filling her with a sense of joy she had not had in a while. There seemed to be no one down on the beach. What a day they were all missing. The flowers and weeds on the edges of the parking lots gave the air a flowery quality that rarely happened any time but early-early spring. Then again, not everyone could smell as well as she did.
The brunette waltzed down to the water’s edge and hopped along the edge of the water. Whenever she would find a really flat stone she would skip it among the waves to see how far she could get it. Her expression changed when a new scent mixed with the ones she’d just gotten used to. It was something she’d never smelt before. Her nose wrinkled as she got another whiff of it. She got the feeling of being watched, and she didn’t quite like that. Cassidy drummed her fingers on her leg waiting for something to happen. And she would sure let whoever it was have it, who where they to ruin her fun?
