W H E N Y O U R G O N E the pieces of my heart are missing you He wanted to spend the evening with Esme and had planned a quiet little evening outside of the house in the forest. Maybe a walk, maybe a picnic type of scenario. He didn't mind either just that he got his time in with his wife. Having been all showered and dressed, he headed down to the living room and waited on Esme to come down as well.
Carlisle thought back to the time he met Esme. How he had fallen in love with her. What a fantastic feeling that had been so long ago. The woman complimented him in all ways. Most of all, it was her soft motherly instincts that had him wrapped around her. It was a choice that he had made that was never once regretted by him.
The turning her into a vampire was another memory that he forever captured in his head. He may of doomed her to eternal life of hell, but there was no mistaken, he wanted this woman. Loved her more than anything. She comforted him when needed, loved him when needed, and listened as needed. She never had a dull moment with her.
Her understanding of his studies and work was just another plus. She never complained that he was always at the hospital helping someone. Never once had she.
And tonight? He had something planned for her. Something to show his love in return. A gift. One he knew that she would love, tucked away in his pocket. He would kiss her underneath the stars and then give her the gift. It was all played out in his head while continuing to wait. He was eager for this night with his woman to begin. Would she know he was up to something? She did know him well enough after all. Did he mind if she sensed he was up to something? Nope. Even that elated him.
" Come my dear woman... the night begins for us." He looked towards the stairs, speaking into the air and unsure if she would hear him right then or not. Esme Cullen stood in her office; she was looking down at some blueprints for her next project. She had gone over it a few more times after she got ready for her night with Carlisle. Something had her perplexed about this place and she couldn’t quite place her finger on it yet. She heard her husband calling and she made a quick adjustment to the blueprint and frowned widely, “That just made it worse…” she muttered before she erased her adjustment and exited the office, shutting the door gently behind her. She headed down the stairs and met her husband at the bottom, “Sorry to keep you waiting, dear.” She apologized before giving him a soft kiss on the cheek, “I was having a small problem with a blueprint to a place I am redoing… I can’t seem to get it right…” she muttered. But with a smile she let it the subject matter drop, tonight was her night with her husband, whom she hadn’t really spent moments alone with due to his work and all that had happened recently.
She knew he had to be up to something; otherwise he wouldn’t have gone through this. He knew she was easy to please when it came to him so there had to be a reason for tonight’s outing, but she didn’t ask about what it might be. She wanted his little surprise to in fact be a surprise when he decided to tell her what it was. She loved her husband so immensely that she was just happy to have a night alone with him. “Let’s begin our night together then.” she said happily as she grabbed his hand gently

When Esme came down and pressed her kiss to his cheek, his arm snuck around her back drawing her against him lightly. " Esme, you will get the plans done, just remain calm and relaxed. It'll all come to you." It was probably easier said then done with all that had been going on for the two lately. Fighting back a sigh, he forced his smile to remain and kissed her softly against plush lips.
As he let go of her, with much hesitation, he motioned her towards the back door. " I'm ready if you are." It wasn't only a time to spend with Esme as husband and wife romantically, he had other things to discuss with her as well. So much had been happening lately that he needed to talk to his wife about.
He led her towards the back of the house and the sliding glass door there and opened it for her. He took in the nightfall and its beauty. It was so calming to be outside in the midst of wildlife and nightfall. Carlisle seemed to almost immediately lift from that hidden sadness that plagued him deep within his thoughts. He could hear animals, big and small within the intermediate surroundings. How lovely was this moment! He nods in the direction of the dirt path. " Want to go that way, Esme?"

Esme was led out the door by her adoring husband. A night alone with him would do them both some good. She squeezed his hand lightly as she looked at the dirt path, “It looks lovely.* she told him with a small smile, She looked up at the sky and smiled brightly, “It’s a beautiful night.” She said softly. “Our life has become so hectic… I am happy to get to spend some time with my wonderful husband away from it.” She told him, “Thank you, Carlisle… You’ve always taken care of me. I hope I have always done the same for you.” She looked up at him and sighed happily.
Esme had sort of gone in to a reminiscing stage for a few moments there, recalling the couple time together, almost a century to be more precise. That was a lot of time for their love to blossom even more. Though admittedly Esme had fallen in love with Carlisle when she was still human, at the age of sixteen, he had helped her with her broken leg. She never forgot the kind doctor and when she married Charles Evenson, the man that had abused Esme, the thought that a man like the handsome doctor existed is what kept her going. That was until she lost her child a few days after his birth. It was also the day Esme and Carlisle met again, they day he bit her and turned her. She never held that decision against Carlisle; he made it so she could spend eternity with the man of her dreams.
“I’m sorry, my love. I am done babbling so we can get on with our night.” She told him. And with that she kissed his cheek and gently held his hand as she walked towards the dirt path.
((The middle fail-ish paragraph is because I only had 150 words and needed to expand…. Sorry…))

Carlisle led Esme down the path and from the house to a small clearing.Once the two were in the middle, he lowered down to sit and held out his hand so Esme could come sit on his lap. Carlisle had so much that he wished to discuss with her but he would first take care of what he wanted to give her. Just before she sit, he shifted and pulled out the small box. It was held in one hand for her to take once she settled down.
" This is for you, my dear." Inside the small box she would find the gold necklace and heart shaped pendant of diamonds. Nothing could be put into gifts or words to Carlisle to express the love he had for Esme. The two had been through a century of ups and downs with thier family and just wished things would get better for them. Only thing was, it seemed so far from reality when you consider all that was happening currently.
Whenever Esme would lower to sit, if she chose to anyhow, he wrapped an arm around her waist and sighed. Carlisles compassionate nature was sneaking up on him. As much as he wanted to forget about all other things than Esme and his moment together, he couldnt. He wondered if Esme knew about Rosalie and Emmetts moving. Was the time now to mention it?
And the thing going on with Ana. Was it right in timing to mention what that was to come? He knew the young woman, his new daughter, was going to die, most likely by morning if he didn't change her. And the whole incident of how it happened to begin with laid heavy on his mind. It was without question, Carlisle had so many things on his mind, and that wasnt including even the dramas with Edward and his 'new' wife that Carlisle didn't necessarily approve of.
For a few minutes, Carlisle didn't speak more. He was just relaxing, enjoying the feel and closeness of his wife. Even after all this time, his beautiful woman had a way about her of relaxing his mind and thoughts. A trait he greatly enjoyed in her.
