((Warning, this gets a little graphic))
Benny woke up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night. His head felt like it was gonna crack in two. “Mooooooom” He called out in the darkness. “Mooooom, where are you?” His arms and legs shook violently, and he started to cough. This flu was going to be the death of him. After a couple minutes his mother strode in the room, thermometer in one hand, cough syrup in the other. The woman was visibly distressed, as she had not slept much since this mystery cold came from nowhere. Between making soup, taking his temperature, going to the store to get him apple juice which he could not scarf down fast enough, and anything else he needed, she was getting a bit overwhelmed.
“Shhh, shh, honey it’s alright.” Marisa Jiroux had been taking care of the boy for a couple days. For some reason his fever didn’t seem to want to break, nor did any sort of medicine want to work. She figured it was just a really bad case of the flu and she’d take him to the hospital if it showed signs of turning into pneumonia. “No more school for the rest of this week okay?” The side of her lip curled into a half smile as she put Benjamin’s hair behind his ear. She’d never seen him this sick before. At first she thought he was just trying to get out of going to the new school, but the one hundred five degree fever said otherwise. His coughing and shaking slowed to a halt again, and he plopped his head back on the pillow. She pulled the covers around him tightly and gave him a kiss on the forehead.
A couple hours later he woke up again, feeling slight better. And a bit stir crazy. He grabbed a smaller blanket and slung it around his shoulders. Weary feet shuffled their way down to the kitchen where a note was left for him to find. Apparently his mother had gone to work, if he needed anything, the neighbors weren’t too far, or he could call her. but only for an emergency. The boy crumpled the paper and tossed it at the trashcan, it missed, he could care less. He took a deep breath and looked around. For no real reason he wanted to go for a walk in the woods. He hated nature, but right now, it seemed like a grand old time. He was probably delirious.
Benny threw on some shoes and bundled his blanket closer. He took a step out into the brisk, almost winter air. There was practically steam coming off any of his exposed skin. But for once he didn’t stop to complain and curse the heavens. A few strides later he was at the beginning of the forest. He took one look back and started in. Minutes passed and he still kept going at a fairly fast rate, he couldn’t even see his house in the spaces between redwoods.
Then something caught him off guard. His rib. Cracked. Well, more like it popped, trying to make room for something. He tripped in pain and his blanket and left shoe went flying. He coughed and coughed, and fumbled around, trying to push the bone back in. His eyes were wide with fear and pain. What the hell just happened?! His shirt was slowly getting covered in blood as the rib managed to puncture the skin. He struggled to find breath as it happened again. This time on the other side, and two of them. He let out a blood curdling scream and started to sob. His voice sounded different though. Rougher, Lower. He rocked back and forth, pulling his knees up to his chest. Trying to make the pain go away, trying to make something go back to normal.
Then changes began elsewhere. The tips of his fingers felt like they where going to explode, the skin ripped up to his first knuckle on four fingers. The bone and tissue inside was shifting right before his eyes. Another scream escaped his mouth, but near the end it turned to a pained howl. He coughed again. “MY GOD SOMEONE HELP ME!” Tears streamed down his face. What was going on, why was this happening to him?! “PLEASE. ANYONE. PLE-“ His terrified yells turned into a howling moan again. Four more ribs cracked, his shirt was positively red, and almost torn as well. He pulled his hands up to eyelevel. Out of each finger grew these grotesque claws, surrounded by skin that was trying to attach itself to the tissue underneath as it reshaped into something completely foreign.
Benjamin lunged forward, blood spurting out of his mouth, his jaw began to feel a fire underneath it, just before it ripped right through the skin, the teeth began to grow inside his mouth, forming into sharp fangs. He tried to scream again but his mouth was too full of blood and the new shape wasn’t accustomed to human sounds. He tried to fight the-, well, what ever it was that he was turning into. His jaw seemed to listen, as it cracked back into its normal shape. He collapsed on the leaves below him, a heaping, bleeding, sobbing mess. “Please, someone, help me” He cried. There wasn't much else he could do.

The rush of the wind flowed through her short dark hair as she ran through the woods. She loved to go out on runs, because it was always a great stress releaser.. The last thing she wanted was to do nothing at all. It seemed like every time she relaxed she’d end up hearing the sickening sound of Sam’s voice in her head. The downfall to being a damned shape shifter was the fact that she had to deal with the constant connection between her mind and his.. She could hear the faint sound of his thoughts. Lucky her.. She scoffed as she heard ‘Emily’ muttered and an intant rage built up within her. She could practically feel her blood boiling in her. She couldn’t stand Emily or even more so Sam.. But the one thing that Leah hated that she would never admit was herself. She always had a feeling that it was something she had done or something she said to make it so she lost Sam to Emily, but the fact imprinting was it.. It only made her hate the fact she had become a shifter like Sam..
She let out a low growl from her throat feeling tears well within her eyes. She ran and jumped, turning into a wolf. She ran with all her might before slamming her massive paws against the side of a large redwood angrily shredding the bark on several trees, even up rooting a small tree when she bounded it to shred at it as well. She growled angrily then let out a large howl as she stopped catching her breathe and laying down within the brush. She wolf let out heavy uneven breathes through her nose. She slowly stood after a few moments, feeling her sorrow weighing herself down. She looked around sniffing the air. She could smell a mixture of things.. Pinewood, redwood, and blood.. She growled ready to handle it.. She ran as fast as she could. What exactly was going on?.. The smell of blood was strong.
She found the source.. A young boy. She ran shifted and ran to the boy. “Are you oka--” She stopped at the gruesome carnage that laid before her. Blood stained the floor of the forest.. She knelt down, slowly putting her arms beneath the boy on the ground to pick him up. However; a scent stopped her. “Damn it..” She looked back down,” Hold in there..” She ran through the brush out of sight not far shift right as she saw a young vampire. She latched her mighty jaw at the vampire’s neck and ripped. The vampire threw Leah back at a large redwood. She yelped when she hit but jumped up as quick as she possibly could. She hurled her body weight against the vampire sending them both tumbling into the clearing where the boy laid. The two tumbled into a large pinetree breaking the wood in half. As shard spiked in leah’s paw. She used her jew to pull it out, and finally lost her temper beyond repair. She sliced and ripped at the vampire, leaving it in a heap. She looked over to the boy. She walked over, bowing her head down so he could put his arm around her neck to help him walk.

Instead of taking his arm around her he slinked away. The hell just happened? He was only semi-conscious, and it may have been a hallucination due to bloodloss or what ever was happening to him, but, she just… turned into a wolf. Ripped some dude to pieces, and now the wolf was trying to pick him up. He tried to kick himself farther away but during the process something was happenig with his legs. His knee snapped, doubling him over in pain again. Benjamin watched in horror as the joint reversed itself, now bending the other way. The shock drove him into another coughing fit. Blood spurting on the girl’s new… fur.
“GET AWAY FROM ME” He shouted as best he could with the skin torn off his jaw. His mind must have been sending him into shock because it seemed the pain was lessening, that meant he had about a minute until he blacked out and that wolf dismembered him like that other guy. Benny managed to look back at his hands that were now shaking violently. Along with his other leg as it bend back on itself too. Tears flooded his eyes, completely blurring his vision. Why was this happening? WHAT was happening? Who the hell was this girl? Why did she turn into a wolf? His breath shallowed, he wasn’t dead yet…. The wolf probably meant no harm. Another thought occurred to him… she was trying to help. He leaned over closer to her. Trying to sling his arm around her neck like she had offered. “I’m” Cough. “Sorry.” Cough. “Help…. Please”

She glared slightly when the boy seemed repulsed at what he saw. If only he knew how fowl those blood sucking ticks were.. then maybe he'd have to a little more respect for her. She shook her head trying to ignore the fact that his reaction bothered her. She felt somewhat bad actually that she was even mad about it. She knew how the boy felt. She was scared to death of herself and the others at first during the phasing. She felt like the freaky wolf girl. There hadn't been a female shifter before, so there were many questions about how she had even become one of the pack. She herself wished to stop phasing for a few reasons.. Not just because she felt like a freak. She really wanted to stop phasing once she met someone.. because as feared as long as she was phasing that she couldn’t bare a child. After all, it made sense to assume so since the phasing had stopped her aging and her menstruation. She hated to admit it, but it was something that there kind and the blood suckers had in common. That Rosalie Cullen had always wanted one as well.. Though Leah would never admit it.. She did feel bad for her in that sense, because she knew how heartbreaking it was to know that. Fortunately enough, when she stopped phasing she could.
She always dreamed of a family and having children. Unfortunately, the man she always saw in her visions of her future was now with Emily.. It broke her heart more and more everyday that she thought about it. She let out a breathe, leaning over after he propped his arm around her. She wished that she could warn him ahead of time but she knew that there was no way she could tell him that this was going to be a problem.. She began to run as fast as she could to the edge of the woods. She ran for fifteen minutes as fast as she could until she made it to her house. She propped a chair out, pulling it over with her jaw so that he could have somewhere to wait. She ran around to the back and shifted back into a human. She started the tub, and threw on a wife beater and a pair of ripped jean shorts. She ran out with a quilt in hand. She took her hand and brushed her fingers through his hair to get a look at the boys face. She laid the quilt next to him, and began taking a wet cloth over his dirt and blood covered face. He felt warm, but still not quite as warm as her.. But she knew that he was definitely burning up fast. “You poor thing..” She said feeling terrible. Lucky for the boy she was no longer repulsed by gore.. Only sympathetic toward it. She took a look at the mess the boy was. She put her arms under him. “I’m going to pick you up.. Okay?.. We need to get you somewhere safe and get you cleaned and bandaged. “ She sighed lifting upward to take the boy inside hoping she wouldn’t hurt him anymore than she’d have to.

Benjamin roared as she lifted him, his stomach lurched and threatened to send him back to the ground whether she was holding onto him or not. The pain was so intense, and his mind was running wild! There was no choice now, he needed to get to the woods! The thoughts swirled in and throughout the pain, creaking in every bone, every vein, every pour. He needed to be in the forest, not in some house with some stranger trying to bandage him up. His knees seemed to listen to his will, and for the need to run. With a loud crack they straightened up and fixed themselves enough to walk on. He shoved himself off of her shoulder and landed on his feet, a feral growl rolling within him.
The beast inside him was awake now, and ripping to get out. His feet tore at the ground as he ran faster and faster. His pupils dilated and his brows furrowed, he needed to be quicker, he was burning up. As soon as he was deep enough in the woods, the rumble burst out in the form of a loud howl. It was low at first but grew into a bloodcurdling wail so loud it could be heard for miles. The caged animal finally getting its turn in the light. Benny covered his ears for a moment, but soon realized that sound was coming from him. This terrified him to no end, he still had no idea what was going on.
He tore off his blood stained shirt, his skin felt like it was on fire it needed the air. Benny couldn’t realize it, but he was running on instinct now. He couldn’t control the actions. Only a few human thoughts remained in his head. Finally he made it to a clearing. There was enough room for him to breathe, to feel like life around him. A presence at the other side of the clearing made him stand on edge, but it was too late now. The monster had arrived.

Click. Shudder. Click.
Jared drew in a breath, mouth turning up in a smile.
Click. Shudder. Click.
Lowering the camera he exhaled, his breath ghosting out before him. He turned slowly where he stood, looking up at the canopy of leaves above him. God, he loved the forest. Back when he lived in London it had been difficult to get out of the city, but now that he could go anywhere… well, he tried his best to go anywhere. Holding his camera in one hand, he used the other to brush a curl of blonde hair out of his eyes, scanning the surrounding trees until he saw something that sparked his interest. He lifted the camera to his eye, about to snap a shot of a small bird scratching at the frozen ground. But before the shutter could go off, a pained howl reached his ears.
Eyes widening, he let the camera drop, bumping against his chest as the strap connected to it pulled on the back of his neck. He turned towards the direction of the sound, senses now alert. There was another ‘wolf out there, and by the sounds of it, a new one. Without a second thought he ran towards it, dropping to all fours as his own transformation blurred his form, reshaping into a large wolf as he rushed through the woods. Leaping across a fallen tree, he was vaguely aware of the camera still hanging from the strap, now tight around his much larger neck while his shirt had ripped to shreds. But that didn’t matter. What mattered was the fact that someone out there was probably terrified and definitely in pain.
Breath coming out in rough grunts and growls, he pushed himself forwards until he burst into a clearing, his eyes taking in the scene. A creature lay before him, mostly wolf but still quite human. The fur it was sprouting was matted with blood, bones still visible at different intervals of its body. Jared moved forward cautiously, circling the former teenager. Tentatively he reached out with his mind, prodding at the boy’s own, his ‘voice’ comforting.
“Calm down. It will be less painful if you stop resisting. Just let the change happen.”

First this insanity, now voices in his head? Half of him wanted to agree but the other half wanted to try and scream and run again. Fortunately for his psyche and his body, the running part was damn near impossible. So giving in and listening was the only thing he could do. He took a hard breath, and let it out slowly letting it, what ever it was, take over. His arms grew out of themselves as his legs shortened and twisted again. The skin was falling off in chunks as the muscle beneath it twisted to hold onto the new shape of things.
New skin formed on top, tougher skin with dark chocolate colored fur growing rabidly out of it. His spine extended rapidly tearing the overly eager new skin. Pink tissue surrounded the new bones and encased them. The thick fur covered that, finishing off a new tail. His whole being quivered as the final transformations were taking place. His jaw extended once again. This time welcoming the change, he felt a lot less pain and it was over before he could howl once more.

If wolves could smile, Jared would be doing so. He sat, tail wagging slowly, and looked down at the ‘newborn’. Teeth bared in a strange kind of grin, he leaned down to nudge at the wolf.
“There we go, all better. I’m guessing from the resistance you didn’t know..?”
Leaning back, he cocked his head along with the question, making it clear that he was the one asking. A breeze ran across the clearing, ruffling their fur and the scant grass on the ground.
“I was the same way, when I changed. Never had a clue beforehand. It was bloody frightening.”

Frightened was an understatement. But wait, Benjamin adjusted to the light in his new eyes. He looked down. Paws? WHAT THE WHAT? His body shook in the wind, he was naked but… He felt fur, and a, a TAIL!? He whimpered as he tried to stand on his new legs, he wobbled and flopped right back down. Big blue eyes looked up at the other creature. At the moment, Benny didn’t know how to sort his thoughts into coherent words. Only images, ideas, whims passed through. But four words seemed to flit through them all.
“What happened to me?”
He stood again, steadying himself enough that he could stay up and get a look around himself. He was a tall, lithe beast, with a thick coat of brown fur. And a freekin tail. He was a wolf, he could tell that much. But why? Did this mean he was a werewolf? He was never bitten! He’d never even seen a wolf before, let alone one that was about three times the size.

Jared chuckled, his haunches shaking along with it. He watched as the boy stood on his new legs, knowing how difficult it must be. The images from the younger’s mind nearly bombarded him, Jared needing to pause to sort through them, nearly missing the words he managed to form. Shaking his head as if water had gotten on his face, he reached through the jumbled mess of images to speak.
“You’re a werewolf, but I think you’ve realized that already. Now, you’ve either been bitten or you are a shifter, like myself. Run into any wild dogs lately? Especially any… huge ones?”
He stood as well, larger than the other by a noticeable amount, still watching to make sure he was alright. The boy was reasonably confused, and rightfully terrified. Jared didn’t know if he was helping or not, but he did know this; He would have killed to have someone to explain all this to him when he first changed.

She felt him lurch forward knowing exactly what the boy was doing. She sighed knowing that it would be irresponsible to let him just run away alone. She wasn't certain if the boy was a werewolf or a shifter. She knew as a werewolf he couldn't control himself, and if that was the case.. he was a liability to the tribe and there warriors. She would either have to keep the boy away from humans or just kill him. There kind didn't kill anything but blood suckers unless they had to, so clearly her favored option was to follow him. She quickly shifter after running out, and into the forest quickly gaining speed.. After all she was the fastest in the pack so keeping up with the boy was no difficult feat. When she made it to the boy, he had shifted. She let out a breathe ready for the freak out. But to her surprise, there was another shifter. She looked surprised, but gave a small growl at the newcomer hearing the two sending messages. Just what she needed… more voices in her head. If she didn’t already ffel like a big enough freak then this was the point of no return.
She approached the young wolf,” I’m Leah. Don’t be scared..” She shot the new wolf a look to stop talking. If the boy wasn’t freaked out enough that bomb drop was enough to send the poor boy into a nervous break down. “Way to be suttle..“ She thought to the new coming man. She was never trusting to begin with and to have a new wolf around the ‘new born’ was far too coincidental for her taste. “Let’s start your name, my dear..” She said directing it at Benjamin. She laid down laying her head on her paws as she awaited.

To say he was shocked at the female's arrival would be an understatement. His sense of smell was useless, the scent of the boy's blood overpowering anything else. A growl rumbled in his throat, ears flat against his head despite the fact that she didn't seem to mean any harm. He had run into enough 'wolves to know that first impressions could be wrong. When she glared, Jared glared back, baring his teeth as she addressed him.
"I believe the time to be subtle has passed. He seems a smart enough boy, I'm sure he has an idea of what is going on, no matter how unbelievable it may be. It's better to let him know than to let him suffer."

She rolled her eyes baring her teeth right back,"Test me.. I dare you.." She snapped with a growl. She may not have been quite as big as him, but she was undoubtably able to hold her own around the 'big boys.' She had to considering her job was to hunt down blood suckers nearly 24-7. She wasn't in to mood to deal with some stranger trying to be a hard ass. She looked at the poor boy as she stood, looking at him. She knew what it was like to have the first change... Painful and confusing as hell. She didn't want him to go through it alone. However; the unknown wolf was quite irritating already but it wasn't about him.. It was about the confused young wolf that stood before them with a huge weight of confusion.
"Well, there are better ways to approach it than just dropping a bomb on him. Damn.." She said looking at the unknown wolf. "I'm sure he can already tell he's a wolf. Dropping the obvious isn't helping.." She snapped. She sighed knowing her anger issues as a wolf and as a woman with a bitter personality were taking over. She looked at the new wolf,"I'm sorry.. I'm Leah Clearwater. Spirit warrior of La Push and all that blah blah.." She said, but suddenly tensed. She sniffed the air.. She let out a low growl. "Blood suckers.. Again. They're everywhere lately.." Her ears went flat looking around. "Keep your senses open.." She stood, circling the young wolf looking ever which direction. Shifters and vampires had never had a good past to begin with, but Quileute shifters especially hated them.

Werewolf. Ahh. That word being said, solidifying the deal, did not in any way make him feel any better about the situation. Less confused, but not necessarily better. How the hell did he become a werewolf? ”I wasn’t bitten, I uh, I don’t know! What the hell is a shifter?” He pawed at the ground, if he was human, he’d being trying to punch a wall or find some other way to get all this frustration out. “This morning I had the flu, now I’m some sort-of different species? How does that even happen? Did I get sick because of this? Why didn’t his mom tell me? Did she know?” She must have known if it was a bloodline thing. Right? She did always work the nightshift, what if she went off in the woods instead of working? No, that didn’t make sense at all, he had called her numerous times at the hospital. But what then?
His father. He never got to meet his dear old dad. A one night stand left his mother with a bun in the oven. Which she kept and continued to spoil for his entire existence. So far anyway. How the hell would explain this to his mother? His thoughts were interrupted by a voice. A Female voice, the one of the girl from earlier. Benjamin whipped his head around to glare at her, not even listening to what ever it was she was saying. “YOU.” He snarled. ”Don’t you DARE yell at him, he’s been more helpful than you ever were.” He snapped his jaw at her, in a display of his new form, and his anger. ”YOU KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN TO ME. AND YOU PUT ME IN A HOUSE?” If he was talking, he would have spat the words. ”You tried to bandage me up as if I was injured, not as if I was turning into a giant fucking wolf. If you are one of these things too, shouldn’t you be able to see that bones done just pop out of your fucking skin because they feel like it?”
