Achen sighed as he walked down the hallway of the hospital thinking of how crazy he must be. The scent of vampire filled his senses, yet he did not flea Forks.
Years ago, I would have left as soon as I smelled these beasts.
He strolled along as he thought back to the first day he saw the golden-eyed creature. Just like the one in New York. They smelled similar to the red-eyed devils, but their scent was different somehow.
Perhaps my survival instinct is faltering
He turned into a room and noticed an elderly woman.
"Hello Miss Summers. I am Doctor Osai. How are you feeling currently?" he said calmly with a smile.
"As good as any lady my age Doctor. What do you have to tell me?" she said matter-of-fact.
Achen smiled. Miss Summers had been a stubborn patient here for years and one of his favorites soon after he arrived and she became confident in his ability as a Doctor.
"Well Miss Summers, I'm sorry to say this, but you are getting old." Achen said warmly.
"Now Achen, you know better than to comment on a woman's age!" she huffed. She never could seem to get angry with such a dedicated person.
Achen sat down beside her and pulled out twp pill bottles.
"Yes, Miss Summers, you taught me well in treating a lady properly." Achen said. Miss Summers was very helpful in helping Achen learn the current courtesies people should be treated with so that his ways weren't as obvious.
"Now, with your arthritis, I have put together a plan for you that should keep you from building an immunity to the medication or interfering with your other medications and health. Please make sure that you remember to tell a doctor that the plans are in your folder if you happen to see a different one. This treatment should keep it down to an annoyance. The dosage will be increased in increments of 20mg. Make sure those pharmacists do not mess it up like they did your pain meds." Achen said.
His eyes flashed with anger as he remembered her being wheeled into the hospital that day.
"I don't worry about them Doc, you have done me a world of good and I know they won't mess up again after your talk with them." She smiled at Achen. My son is even grateful for your support.
"Thank you for your confidence Miss Summers." Achen said with a smile.
"You better not expect another doctor to be treating me either boy." She said obstinately.
Achen stood up and hugged the elderly woman.
"Yes Miss Summers."
She stood then and gave Achen her good-byes.
"I'll be in next week for my check-up and don't forget my appointment next month." she said as she walked out of the room.
Achen smiled as he followed her out and walked back to the nurse's desk. She always has that maternal edge he thought with the love he had for the woman
"Doctor Osai, how do you manage to treat such a stubborn woman?" Cynthia said. She was running the desk for the day and was one of the nurses that Achen trusted to be fair with any patient that walked in.
"She is a good woman Cynthia. She just demands her due and respect as any elder would."
Cynthia shook her head. "I swear, you and Doctor Carlisle make no sense at all."
Achen smiled as he laughed and walked away. The golden-eyed vampire. He didn't know why he stayed, with a vampire so close. Carlisle seemed nice enough, yet he still avoided as much as he could without seeming suspicious. He had been able to keep himself from any notice of supernatural, or any other, eyes.
He walked to his locker and began to put his things away. Ready to go home until the next morning and the new days experiences. He pondered how this life of servitude seemed to be the one thing that made the years worth living and the fears worth facing. He stepped out and strolled to the hospital doors, waving at those he worked with when he passed them by.
