Maddie parked her car in the parking lot at the Seattle mall; she had just got paid so she could afford some knew cloths for Mia. She pushed on the door and stepped out after turning the key, Maddie could hear Mia cooing in the back seat. She closed the front door and headed to the back trunk; carefully she pulled out the heavy stroller and popped it up. Locking it in place she pushed it to the side of the door and pulled the handle opening the door. “Ready to get out?” she unclipped the straps in the car seat and pulled her daughter out of the car… she was getting bigger pretty much every day it seemed. Gently Maddie placed Mia in the stroller and strapped her in, she didn’t want Mia to fall out and get hurt… especially with Mia almost constantly leaning forward and moving around. She made sure the strap was tight enough then stood back up and walking to the back of the stroller.
She pulled her light jacket closer to her body as the wind ripped through the cars “A little chilly out hu?” she said to Mia, she knew the little girl wouldn’t answer back…she couldn’t really talk all that much it was just nice to talk even if there wasn’t going to be an answer. The automatic doors opened as Maddie came near, she could hear Mia give a small little laugh she smirked…her laugh was so adorable… but her thoughts could be biased since Mia was her daughter. Maddie looked at the people passing her and listened to the clicking of her boots… her feet were already killing her… a five inch heel will do that to you.
It didn’t take long until Maddie made it to the clothing store, she smiled at all of the cloths… she had always thought baby clothes were the most were the most adorable thing ever…whenever she was able to spend money on knew cloths for either herself or for Mia she loved it… on her budget that was only once every couple of months… at least she didn’t have to worry about rent… living with her sister had it’s good sides. Being a single mother was bad enough but she had gotten pregnant in her senior year of high school so all she had was a high school diploma and in this economy you needed a college diploma to actually get a good job… plus it wasn’t all that easy being such a young mother…sometimes the stress was almost unbearable…Maddie thanked god that she had her sister to help her in her life. It had been a year since she had any bit of a normal life...before Mia was born.
After about a half hour of shopping Maddie headed to the food court…she was starving. She had rushed out of the house so fast she had forgotten to grab something to eat. Walking up to the pizza place she ordered two slices…one for her and one for her daughter. She took the tray and looked over at a clear table, she tried to push the stroller and carry the tray to the table but it proved more difficult than it had seemed.

Like every other day in Washington, the sun was hidden beneath a relatively thick layer of clouds making the air feel about twenty degrees cooler than it should. That made summer days colder than most places and Jeremiah deemed it was only in Washington that you would feel slightly chilly during mid-summer. Nevertheless, he wore a welll-fitted black shirt and a pair of dark-washed jeans. It was his usual attire outside his uniform, which was probably one of the main reasons he enjoyed his day off so much: comfortable clothes. A smirk fell on his face as his mind passed over that thought as he got out of his car and headed towards the automatic doors of the mall. It had been a long while since he’d done any shopping for himself, but he desperately needed a couple jeans and a few new shirts. And as much as he hated the mall, it was the easiest place to shop.
Walking through the doors, the familiar mix of smells the defined a mall settled in his nose. His mission was to get in and out of there as fast as possible. In a split moment, he headed off towards Express where he began to pick out a couple of jeans and shirts. As the register read a number too high for Jeremiah’s liking, he swiped his card, sighed, and walked out. He hated shopping because shopping meant spending money. It wasn’t that he didn’t have the money to spend; it was just a matter of principle to not spend more on clothes than you do on everything else. Brushing the thought aside, he began his way towards the exit, but not soon into his descent did he smell the wonderful food court. It was then that he realized just how hungry he was. His stomach growled low and he sighed, knowing that if he didn’t eat now, he would regret it later.
Riding the escalator up to the middle floor, he stopped at the edge of the food court and looked around to the different restaurants, trying to debate what he wanted to eat. There were all sorts of food: Chinese, Japanese, American, Italian, and even Mexican. Craving some pizza, he made his way towards the small Italian restaurant. It was crowded, so it took a little more effort to dodge the people, but as he was doing so, he saw a young woman struggling with a stroller and her food. Always wanting to help, he made his way towards her and just as it seemed her food was about to spill to the floor, he caught the tray quickly with one hand.
“Need a hand?” He asked, casting her a warm smile as he straightened himself back up, gazing for a moment at her. She looked a little young to be a mother, but he wasn’t one to judge. In his line of work, he had seen everything and his mind was clear of judgments unless people truly deserved them. “I’m Jeremiah…” He spoke, his crystal blue eyes catching hers, hoping he didn’t startle or scare her.

Maddie’s eyes flew up to look at the man who had just caught the tray of food she had been so skillfully managing to carry. A small amount of pink flushed across her gently freckled cheeks. “Oh…” a thankful smile spread across her lips “Thank you” if she had dropped that should would have been A. Embarrassed and B. Hungry. Mia moved her head to the noise of the stranger’s voice as he spoke Maddie kept her eyes on him. She wasn’t sure why he had taken the time just to help her, he probably had way better things to do then help some woman who couldn’t even manage to carry a tray of pizza and push her daughters stroller at the same time. She heard him speak again, asking her if she needed a hand…Maddie thought about it for a second…She didn’t want to bother the man, but he was pretty cute and he was offering to help her…but maybe it was one of those I will offer since it’s the polite thing to do but it doesn’t mean I want to. Her lips twisted slightly as she let herself worry too much a small problem she had. She looked into his eyes…so blue…he seemed sincere. oh screw it she thought “Yes please”.
Maddie smiled again “You would think I could manage to do this by now” she was joking but still there was truth in that… she really should be able to push her daughter and carry food…not that hard of a thing to do….but as she proved apparently it was a pretty hard thing to do.
The man introduced himself as Jeremiah, Maddie nodded when he said his name “Madison...” she gave a slight shake of her head “Maddie” she looked down at Mia for a second “And Mia” she gestured to the baby who was staring up at the big man…she wasn’t really used to being around men only her uncle… Maddie didn’t have a man in her life since Mia’s father…and that was over a year ago…
She started to walk to a table a few feet away hoping her would follow. Once at the table she took Mia out of her stroller and pulled over one of the baby chairs and placed her inside of it… she looked back at Jeremiah and smiled.

As Jeremiah met her gaze, he could see the brief pink coloring in her cheeks and it brought a smile to him. It was always adorable to see a girl blush, especially one as pretty as the one standing before him. He couldn’t help but let his eyes linger with hers as she debated whether or not she wanted the help. He hoped she would accept it, but if she didn’t that would be okay too; at least he had done a good deed. As he prepared for a ‘no thank you, I’m alright’ he was surprised to hear quite the opposite. He smiled lightly towards the woman, as she introduced herself and the baby. “Pleasure to meet you, Maddie.” Leaning down, he admired how cute the baby was, “And you Mia.” He laughed softly, knowing the baby wouldn’t respond, but the eyes that looked up at him were too sweet.
Standing back up, he cast Maddie a warm smile. “I’m sure you’re just having an off day.” He commented in response to her frustration with not being able to carry the tray and push the stroller. Jeremiah knew mothers were already extraordinary women, but he knew they sometimes needed some help; especially if there wasn’t already a male figure around. And from the looks of it, there wasn’t. But…just to be safe. “Besides, I’m sure you don’t do all the work by yourself…” It wasn’t as subtle as he had hoped, but it worked nonetheless. A woman as beautiful as her was sure to be with someone, especially when a little baby girl was involved. But of course, Jeremiah knew guys nowadays…especially high school and college guys. Their mind was always on one thing it seemed, and once they got it...they were through. The thought alone made his blood run warm with anger a slight anger, but he easily calmed himself.
His wolf’s ears were perked as Jeremiah and Maddie made conversation, standing on all fours…listening to what was being said. The ocean eyes of the wolf were the same as Jeremiah’s…signaling how close to his beast he had become. In essence, they were one. But, that fact alone made it hard for him to get close to those that didn’t share the same Fate. That didn’t mean he couldn’t try, right?
Following the young woman to the table she led to, he set the tray down and let his eyes move from the woman’s frame to the baby in the stroller. “How old is she?” He asked, glancing back up at Madison, a smile on his face. In his line of work, it was a rare thing to see such youth and innocence. It made moments like these, all the more memorable.

So far he wasn’t judging her which she liked, you could always tell when someone was being nice to just be polite but really they were saying all sorts of things on their head. Maddie watched as he bent down to say hello to Mia, a slight smile crossed her lips… he didn’t seem like that bad of a guy…so far, one thing she learned about men was they never showed their true colors until something happened that could change their lives… a.k.a a child.
M
addie slightly shrugged “I don’t know about an off day as in an off year” it was strange getting used to being a mother. She didn’t just have to worry about herself anymore…she had to worry about another life… a life that couldn’t take care of its self. That was something she wasn’t used to… first off she never really even took care of herself, she had her brother for her entire life. He was the one that took care of her. A small amount of sadness crossed her face as she thought about her brother but she quickly shook it away…there was a time and place and here was neither the time nor the place. She glanced up at him slowly then gave a half smile “I have my sister at times, but I mean she’s got her own family to take care of” yes Maddie lived with her sister and her sister did watch Mia from time to time, but she had Mia pretty much all the time and had to mange it all by herself. She lived in the apartment above the garage so it was like her own space but it also put a wall between her sister’s family and her, Summer had told her that if she lived in the main house she would help Maddie to much which meant Maddie wouldn’t learn how to take care of her daughter by herself. Maddie cut up one slice of pizza so Mia could eat it and not choke. She heard Jeremiah’s voice once more and she looked up, he asked how old she was “She’s going to be two in four months” yes she could have said one but still it was just the way it had come out. Jeremiah sat across the table from Madison and Mia, giving him perfect view of the two. His eyes stayed on Mia for a while, noticing the certain similarities between her and her mother. It was so strange how microscopic things could create such a being. All it took was twenty four chromosomes, and here little Mia was, sitting and eating as a human being. It was something that made Jeremiah crazy when he sat and thought about it too long. Realizing that such small things can have such a big impact on everything. Even in his case, with his lycanthropy, the microscopic venom running through his veins was the cause of his animal within. It just…completely blew his mind. He knew something bigger than all of them had to be out there…nothing else made sense.
Pulling himself back to reality, he gazed over to Madison just in time to see a small glimpse of sadness on her face. He wondered what she had been thinking about, but it was obvious he wouldn’t ask…though the gaze in his eyes showed concern. Sure, he had only met this woman a couple minutes ago, but he still hated seeing anyone upset. That was just in his nature. He was a leader, and being a leader meant it was his job to protect and help others around him…even if they were strangers. However, the woman seemed to shoo it away rather quickly, so he let it be. He heard her say about having an off year and he knew instantly things with her pregnancy hadn’t been easy. He hated to say it, but usually for someone so young, they weren’t…even if that father had stuck around. And from the way she had failed to mention the baby’s father at all, he felt it safe to assume he hadn’t.
“Things will get easier.” He assured her, knowing that in reality they would. He knew from watching others that the first few years were always the hardest because it’s so new, but after a while…it just becomes like breathing. Jeremiah wasn’t much one for kids. Sure, he loved them and the thought of having a daughter or son was comforting but, his line of work was so dangerous for kids to grow up around. Not so much the line of work…but the risks involved in it. He was a lycan, but that strength only could do so much. To just disappear one day because something happened, would leave the child fatherless…and Jeremiah couldn’t think to pin that on someone so innocent. “It’s good that you have family support though, that’s always important.”
He wasn’t sure what else to say without prying too much into her personal life. Doing that would make him look like some crazy creep. That was the last thing he wanted. He heard Madison say Mia was just under two years and he smiled. “So do you live around here?” He asked, glancing back towards Madison. Just because she was shopping in Seattle, didn’t necessarily mean she lived there. It was general getting to know you conversation…nothing too exciting, but it was part of the process of meeting someone new.

“I hope so” she already knew it was getting easier since Mia was born, she was getting more independent now making it easier on Maddie. Mia could feed herself now, which made feeding less of a hassle. Maddie could fold laundry while Mia ate which helped with getting chores done.
Madison nodded she knew having support from her family was one of the only things that kept her actually a float in life. Without her sister Maddie knew that she would be just any other teen mom; alone in some run down apartment. Maybe if Logan were still alive she would still have him… she would be living with him most likely. She had grown so close to her sister after his death if he hadn’t died she probably wouldn’t have become so close with her sister.
Maddie nodded when he asked if she lived around here “Yeah sort of… Forks” She didn’t know how much in danger she was in living in Forks, Maddie had no idea about werewolves and vampires and the danger she was putting little Mia in living in such a vampire populated town. Especially since Maddie liked taking hikes in the woods. She loved to camp but she was going to have wait until Mia was a lot older or at least until she had someone else with her to make camping easier. “You?” she asked, it was nice to sit with someone and have a nice conversation without getting some kind of speech… yes she loved her sister but everything Maddie did with Mia was wrong or there was a better way to be doing things.

Jeremiah’s crystal eyes flickered between Madison and the little girl, Mia. He could obviously see the resemblance and he knew that would later be a plus in the little girl’s life. Madison was beautiful, and he couldn’t help but how mature and mannerly she was. In reality, she was only nineteen, but in Jeremiah’s eyes, she could pass for about twenty-two. An admirable smile fell on the officer’s face as the little girl made a couple cute faces towards him. Even though Jeremiah wasn’t one to think about having kids, he loved to be around them. They always brought such an innocent vibe into the room, reminding everyone near of the good old days when you didn’t have a care in the world.
When Madison responded to being close by, he couldn’t help but perk up at the mention of Forks. Lately, that place had been a hotspot for vampire activity. He knew it was safe to assume that Maddie knew nothing of his species nor theirs, or else he was sure she wouldn’t be living there. But from his understanding, the only vampires that resided near her only survived off of animals. Still, that didn’t mean the young girl and her daughter were safe. A silent sigh escaped his lips as he longed to tell her and warn her to keep a fair eye out, but he knew to expose their world would just be sending everything else into turmoil.
“Forks, huh? I’ve passed by there a couple times. It’s a pretty small town.” He remarked just in casual conversation. Then he heard her ask him the same question and he nodded. “Yeah, I live just right out side of Seattle. I love being near the city, but I also like my privacy as well.” That statement held true for numerous occasions. Not only was he forced to change once every month, he also rather enjoyed being in his wolf form. It took years to master it, but he was considered an alpha now and even had his own pack. Of course, it was small due to the secrecy of their kind, but he prided himself in being their leader. Most of the lycans fled to either New York or St. Louis…very few came to Washington. But he was sure to know those few as soon as they made themselves known. He was unsure of which way to push the conversation. He wasn't a very direct person, but he couldn't help but take note of her beauty. Even if he was a couple years older, a part of him wanted to ask her to dinner sometime. But, he stood against it...remember that she was human and had a daughter. To even risk losing control around either of them was too dangerous and so he opted for the safe route of letting her choose where the conversation went.
