Life, so fragile, so frail. Humans were breakable. Ana was no different. The crash had been a tragic accident. Of course she wouldn't listen. Of course she would push her human limits. She wanted to push her human boundaries. What a stupid mistake she made. The curve had been too sharp and she couldn't slow in time to make it. The car flipped right into the tree. Kenny had been ejected through the windshield. Ana, luckily had been wearing a seatbelt. But that hadn't saved her from the steering column slamming into her chest and airbag exploding into her head. She was beat up bad.
Brooke had gotten her out of the now totaled new Masserati as Edward called 911. Ana had been bleeding badly, when the paramedics finally arrived. They quickly got her into the ambulance and radioed into Fork's hospital that they had incoming. Brooke had made the decision to go with Ana and leave Kenny and Edward to get the vehicles home and for Edward to contact Esme. This would be a long day.
The arrival to the ER was hectic. People ran around trying to get Ana stable. She needed blood. She was bleeding internally and externally and things weren't looking good. There was a small chance she could survive this, but with every passing moment the chance started slipping. Her heart rate was dropping and she wasn't breathing on her own. This was probably the worst predicament she had ever gotten herself into but this time, it could affect more than just her life, but a whole family, and one boy she cared deeply for.

“Ana's been in a car accident....You need to get to the hospital....” Edward told her in a shaky voice.
Esme froze and nearly dropped her phone; she had no idea what to say to the news she had just been given. She played over what was supposed to happen today in her head. Brooke was going to buy Ana a car, she must not have bought one that would protect the human girl, knowing Brooke it would be a sports car. Knowing Ana she would be driving it well over the speed limit. She snapped back to reality and realized she was still on the phone with Edward. “I’ll be right there.” She said swiftly and shut her flip phone quickly, leaving it crushed in her hand. She threw the pieces to the floor and ran for the garage, grabbing the keys to a random car as she walked out.
She wished she could have run to the hospital but that would make people suspicious if they saw her. She realized it was the keys to Edward’s car and quickly hopped into the silver Volvo, and sped off towards the hospital. She was going well over the speed limit, not something she would normally do but right now she didn’t care, her daughter was hurt and that was all that mattered.
Within minutes the car came to a screeching halt in front of the hospital and Esme got out of the car, and ran inside the hospital. She began to look around for Ana or Carlisle, her mother instincts were going crazy right now.

Carlisle had just been about to leave for the day and was dialing Esme on his cell when his pager went off. It was the ER calling him to inform him that he was needed for a trama on the floor below. Closing the cell as he headed towards the stairs exit, he hurried to the emergency room and came up to the nurses desk. Immediately he was handed a patient chart and as soon as he opened it and seen the name of the woman brought in, his eyes lifted and he spun around. As he headed towards the trauma bay, he continued reading to fill himself of the details. Just before entering the room, he told the nurses not to allow entry to anyone til he did his full examination of her. The less commotion the better.
Inside the room and at the side of Ana, he listened to the nurses, nurses aides, and paramedics telling him of all that had been done. Carlisle accepted the things that were told to him, but did his own examination as well. Her pulse, bp, and respirations were off. Way off. If something wasn't done soon, he knew that he would lose his adopted daughter.
Carlisle was calm for outside appearances but breaking within. This was family. Immediately after finding out what blood work had been done, he ordered a Cat scan and Xrays. He also ordered one of the nurses to find the type of her blood and wrote orders out for her to receive blood. She needed blood and fast. All the signs were pointed to the obvious. Injuries within her body were never good.
A surgeon on call was called and while he let the surgeon to do what he did best, Carlisle stepped outside the room and sighed. He kept a strong appearance, but was beyond worried. He headed over to the nurses station to write his assessment and wait for the blood to come from the pharmacy.
One hand ran through his hair as elbow pressed down on the counter. He was still trying to figure out what exactly had happened. The paramedics telling seemed far fetched. A car accident. She was speeding. He couldn't believe what he heard earlier.
He hadn't known that his wife was there yet, but had told Brooke was and immediately upon finishing the chart for Ana, he passed it to the nurse and walked towards the waiting room. " Brooke.." It was then he seen his wife and headed in their direction. To be truthful, he didn't know what to say other than each name of the women at the second. " My dear. " He pauses.." I am going to take care of Ana. Don't worry." It was all he could say. Eh.

Wearing^^Thinking all this time, he shouldn't be here in the first place. But this was some where every expected him to be. But after he made sure all the cars were back in the Cullen garage safe and sound, Edward used his own silver Lotus to get to the hospital. Brooke had bought him another vehicle today.
Edward paced the hall way back and forth. He rubbed his hands through his already messed up hair. He was already going through so much. And now his sister's life laid in the balance. He was not any where near the O.R. He was trying not to get to close....He still had some of his sisters blood on his clothes and hands. But he didn't give a damn right now. All that he cared about to know about was if his sister was alive or dead....He didn't know that either.
He didn't know where his wife was. He was trying to remain calm. But being him it was impossible to calm down. He knew Carlisle was doing all that could be done to save their little sister....Edward just hope he has not given changing her a thought. Yes, that has crossed Edward's mind. The thought of his sister becoming immortal would make a lot of changes for him...He was so used to her being human. He tried to chase that thought out of his head though...Edward looked up the hall and saw his father...But Edward remained in the back ground as he over heard what was being said....The look on his father's face was unnerving. He didn't want to know what was happening in that O.R. now....

Kenny didn't know what to do...His mind racing a mile a minute with his girlfriend going to the hospital...He needed to see his sister before her arrived there...He needed to see her in hopes of finding comfort and help in taking the glass from his back.....He just needed to...Kenny pulled Brookes car into into an open area near the forest where his sisters scent had been...he let her pick the glass out of his skin, explaining everything that had happened and how Ana was he girlfriend. Bontia of course, surprised, and very angry with him.....Nita stopped pulling the glass out of his back then ran off! He ended up tearing down some trees, storming off, and leaving his sister behind.
When he left his sister he took Brookes car into the Hospital parking lot..he wanted to cry...but he couldn't. He wanted to sleep...but he couldn't....He wanted to do anything that could possibly ease his mind off of what happened but couldn't. He hoped out of the car locking it behind him and walked quickly into the hospital hoping that everything was okay.
He sniffed around for quiet a while then stopped when he was around a cullen...or two...or three... he wasn't looking at anything or anyone in particular...just to the air. He didn't dear say a word....not one to anyone...didn't dare look...or even attempt eye contact. He wasn't even thinking anything...everything was blank and numb...besides his back that was irritated with glass under the thick shirt.

Brooke felt terrible about what had happened. She had told Esme she was going to buy a car for Ana today and Esme had given her rules to what kind of car to buy. Brooke, being who she was, ignored the rules and bought Ana a Masaratti, of course she set down rules for it before giving her the keys. Ana, being who she was, ignored the rules while Brooke and Edward stayed behind to purchase a car for Edward. Brooke and Edward quickly caught up in their European sports cars, but even that hadn’t stopped her. They went around a bend in the road and Ana hadn’t slowed down enough to make it, sending her car into a tree. Brooke had jumped out of the car and pulled her from the wreckage and had gone to the hospital with her as well, leaving her car in the hands of Kenny. Yes, that was weird for Brooke but she didn’t care about the Lotus Europa anymore, she snapped into a worried, almost motherly mode the second the car hit the tree.
Now Brooke was in the waiting room on the ER. Carlisle had come to talk to her but Esme soon walked in and Brooke knew that Esme was six hundred times more worried than she was. She also knew Esme would rip her head off for buying Ana a sports car. She spotted Edward and crossed the room to him. “I’m so sorry… I shouldn’t have bought her that car… If she doesn’t make it I… don’t know what I will do… “ she moved close to him and buried her face into his chest, her heels were lost somewhere, they got thrown off when she ran to pull Ana from the wreck. “I didn’t think she wouldn’t listen to the rules… I thought she would know I was serious… I will never forgive myself if she doesn’t live…”
If Brooke could cry she would be, she truly felt horrible for this all. She knew she should have followed the rules and stupidly she didn’t. If Ana lived she would most certainly be stuck driving a giant hummer or something of similar size from this point forward.

Achen had arrived in time to see Carlisle already with the case. He stood back as he was assaulted with the funny scent of golden-eyed vampires rushing into the hospital. He was amazed that not a single one of them paid him any attention and could not help but wonder what so many were doing here. Even more amazing was the number of them he saw. He had thought the golden-eyed doctor all those years ago was an anomaly, but clearly he had been wrong. If only he had taken the time to get a good look at that doctor. He focused his attention on what the nurses and paramedics were saying, finding Carlisle's reasonable voice admist the tangle of theirs sounding with the sure authority of a master in his craft. Achen was glad that Carlisle was able to direct the gaggle of healthcare workers, ensuring that the human girl was attended to properly. Achen's attention shifted as Carlisle came out of the room and Achen realized that Carlisle was doubtful about this new patient, and strangely enough seemed to be burdened as if this girl was a gem he did not want to give up. He listened to the women express their sadness, but soon Achen was itching to see the girl.
Achen stepped around the corner and strode towards the group, briefly touching the ruby cross that hung on a silver chain around his neck. His father had told him once when he was a small boy, that it protected the wearer from special beasts with amazing powers. Achen had never known that his father had any idea of the red-eyed devil that soon killed him and his wife and left his son alone. Achen learned in later years that it acted as a kind of shield, protecting Achen from others' senses and storing energy. He did not know how to tap the energy it stored though much to his frustration. He focused once more through his racing thoughts as he approached the group on the way to the ER.
"Hello Doctor Carlisle." Achen said as he passed to join the group in the waiting room. Achen continued on to the room.
Achen entered to see the surgeon rushing to save the girl who was bleeding from multiple wounds.
"Have you stopped the internal bleeding?" Achen asked.
"No Doctor, there are so many and she needs a blood transfusion."
Achen stepped out of the room to another close by and prepared to help the surgeon. He returned mintues later and began helping the surgeon stop the bleeding, using his smell and sight to see the wounds the surgeon did not immediately catch. They were able to minimize most of the bleeding, but the girl's body was so badly beaten up that Achen wondered why she had not already died with the blood loss she had sustained.
This girl is the walking dead
Achen had seen miracles in the years he had worked, but the damage to her organs ws impressive and the blood transfusions, he feared, would work too slow.
He stepped out of the ER room with all thoughts forgotten about the mystery surrounding Carlisle Cullen and approached him quickly.
"Doctor Cullen, I know you may be busy at the moment, but right now, you and I are the two most knowledgeable people here right know. There must be something you know of that can help the surgeon save that girl." Achen stated. His eyes betrayed his desperation to save a life that hung by mere gossamers to this world. His focus had zeroed in on the single goal of saving the girl on the stretcher.

Esme finally saw her husband, he had found Brooke but he turned away from the brunette vampire when he saw his wife. So he would be taking care of Ana, this would make her feel better but the look on his face seemed to make it worse at the same time. "She'll make it right?" she asked him, she didn't know what she would do if Ana didn't make it. It was at this point a young looking doctor walked over to Carlisle and began to speak, asking him if he knew anyway to save the girl in the ER. The breaths Esme had been taking to seem human caught in her throat and her eyes grew wide. That was not the right thing to have said in front of her.
The world seemed to spin a little and her hand grabbed Carlisle's arm in an attempt to calm herself slightly, "You have to save her Carlisle... I don't know what I would do if you didn't..." the woman muttered to her husband. She was not used to feeling despair like this but right now Esme felt like a helpless human who could so nothing but watch as her loved one die. This doctor that had said that really should have known better than do make a mother have a panic attack like that and this would have caused any human to spiral into a panic attack of a alarming size. She let go of Carlisle and walked away, she had to get out of that building for a few minutes to regain her composure.

Carlisle could handle anything except his wifes pain. When he was about to speak to Achen about the status of Ana, he felt Esme grab him. He spun around and took a hold of his wife and brought her into a loving embrace. Her distress was his and quite shared by him. He whispered into her ear so that none could hear his words. " I will do what I can. I promise." He hoped he could hold that promise and it hadn't been too late. As he gently let go of his wife, he spoke loud enough so that he could be heard by all. " I will return, let me see what is going on with her."
He had seen Kenny and Edward there. A long saddened glance was shot in his direction. If he could of read his mind, he would of known he was delaying the inevitable in telling his family. He had already known that Ana wasn't going to make it out of this one. Achen knew too. Slowly he turned, sighing as he disappeared from sight.
It was a good while before he returned. Sullen faced. He was not looking forward to having to do what came next. While he had been gone, Ana did come out of surgery, she was in a coma, and not expected to live through the night, from what the surgeons had informed him off. He paused just inside the waiting room and looked to his family. Achen was given a glance to as well. He first went to him and spoke low. He didn't want his words getting back to Esme right then. " She has been given to me for soul care. Me being her family, I wish to take her home tonight. She would not of wished to spend her last moments anywhere else but at home."
He wouldn't give Achen time to question him on this for he had turned and headed towards Esme. He looked over to Edward. " Take your mother home and the others. I will arrive soon. Do not leave Esme under any circumstances.. And Edward?" He moved to him, placing a hand on his shoulder and leaned in to whisper. " Prepare Anas bedroom for me."
He let go of Edward and stepped to Esme. He didn't say a whole lot to her, perhaps with of many years of her being with him, she could read his face. It was not good at all and time wasn't on their sides by any means. " My love, I'll be home as soon as I can." He kissed her softly and gave her a hug.
This was one of those times he wished to be elsewhere but here. His wife knowing and seeing her as she was, much less what was happening left sorrow in his thoughts. Questions of why this had happened in the first place and why to his own family. Would it be too late? He hoped not.

What a way to spend the last week here...In a hospital wondering if his little sister was gonna live or die. He knew his wife was blaming herself for this. But he couldn't be around any one at this point. He knew his wife would understand. He was trying to maintain his distance. From humans. This was a hospital after all. Blood....Was every where....But right now he cared less about his condition. He was more worried about his sister. But as he paced up and down the hall way, Edward could see that his father was walking up to him...." Take your mother home and the others. I will arrive soon. Do not leave Esme under any circumstances.. And Edward?"
Edward looked back at his father in silence....Yes the conversation he had with his father was still there....All Edward could do now was act as though every thing was okay between him and his father... "Prepare Ana's bedroom for me." Edward knew what that meant. He simply nodded at his father. As he grabbed his mother's hand in his...."Esme....Please come..." He said with a low sad voice. This was kinda the same situation Edward was in when he was turned. He knew what Esme felt. He knew what she was going through. But the question was, egging in the back of his head....
Was he being replaced? Carlisle made it plain and clear that he was on his own for now on.....Did his father really mean what he said? Edward never said any thing about what his father said last night...There was still some of Ana's blood on his shirt as he grabbed his mother's hand in his.... But the question would be, would she let him take her home? Edward knew how Esme felt about his wife....At this point there was really no need for arguing about some thing that was so small compared to what events have taken place tonight....

“I’m so sorry… I shouldn’t have bought her that car… If she doesn’t make it I… don’t know what I will do… “ “I didn’t think she wouldn’t listen to the rules… I thought she would know I was serious… I will never forgive myself if she doesn’t live…” "She'll make it right?" Kenny just stood there feeling like a stick in the mud. He was well happy he didn't have to speak or do much of anything considering...he didn't feel like doing anything. ...He sighed quietly closing his eyes for a moment. When they opened he finally looked around seeing who all was around and placed...Even though he could smell everyone that was here, he wasn't paying good attention.
What was he going to do now? If they were leaving back to the Cullen house where does that leave him? He wasn't sure if he would be invited to go but honestly would understand if he were to be told no. He did blame himself after all...and this looked to much like family business for him to be around.. He would come if told to, but if not he would go find his brother, Ash. Ash always knew how to cheer him up even in the worst of moods...Him and his jokes... Kenny looked from Edward to Brooke...Then to Carlise and Esme...then to the floor. He shuffled his feet uncomfortably.

Brooke was silent as Ana’s surgery was performed; she was overly worried about the girl. Carlisle finally came out and she had hoped for good news but his sullen face told her otherwise. He had told Edward to take Esme home and not leave her, meaning this would not be a good day for the Cullen family. The brunette watched as her husband led his mother out of the hospital, the poor Cullen mother looked terrible. Ana’s bed was to be made up… Were the Cullen’s going to change the girl or just take her home so she can live her last moments in the comfort of the Cullen home?
Once Edward had taken Esme out Brooke gave Carlisle a sad look as she walked passed home to go to Kenny, “You’re coming with us, right?” She asked him, “At the very least you can keep me company… I don’t feel like I belong there. It seems like a family moment… and even though I carry the Cullen name it is only by marriage.” She told him softly. She never felt like she was a member of the Cullen family truly, Esme and Carlisle didn’t approve of their son’s marriage to her and though they wouldn’t change her relationship with Edward it would put a small kink in how she acted whenever the Cullen’s were involved. She had no clue how she could change the Cullen’s perception of her, she loved Edward but that never seemed like enough.
This event would certainly not help her, Brooke had bought Ana a Masserati, a ridiculous car to buy for a human at the age of 17. She also shouldn’t have left her alone in it, she shouldn’t have insisted on buying Edward a car. She should have been responsible and driven home in front of Ana so the girl couldn’t speed like she did. If Brooke had just done the things that should have been common sense Ana wouldn’t be in that hospital bed. And she felt horribly guilty for this face.

Achen was surprised to see Carlisle's wife act as she did. It should that these strange ones were more human than their red-eyed counterparts. Perhaps their eye color was more than a mere physical distinguishment. He regretted alarming this woman like he did, but it did not change the truth of the matter and Achen was sure this woman had the strength for such situations as these. She must have had previous experiences with death. It was the only logical conclusion he could come to. Achen watched as thoughts swirled behind Carlisle's stare and he approached.
Carlisle placed his hand on Achen's shoulder and Achen's ruby cross flared beneath his shirt. Achen's hand swiftly covered the cross, but he knew the red light had been easily noticeable." She has been given to me for soul care. Me being her family, I wish to take her home tonight. She would not of wished to spend her last moments anywhere else but at home." Carlisle whispered carefully. Achen wondered how Carlisle could have expected a mere human to hear such whisperings as he stepped back toward his family as Achen now assumed them to be.
Achen found it was marvelous how they allowed a human to live with them and took care of the girl. The strength of the woman's emotions stirred Achen's heart and convinced him to take a monumental risk. He would do for this girl what he never considered doing before.Achen swiftly strolled back into the ER hoping the others would not follow.
He saw a couple nurses tending to the girl as he strode into the room. "Both of you ladies, leave now." His tone held the experience of decades and cut any chance for disagreement. The nurses quickly left.
Achen stepped towards the comatose girl, her life hanging on by dissipating gossamers of whatever strength the girl had left. Carlisle was up to something, but Achen knew the girl would not survive whatever Carlisle had thought to do, he could still smell the evidence of internal bleeding.
"May your spirit prevail little one." Achen said in the language of his youth. His cross flared to life as the words filled the air of the room with a vibrant energy. His hands fell upon the girl's head and heart. As they touched her skin, they flared with a red light like the cross around his neck. The silver began to shine with an ethereal beauty that had not been witnessed in ages since a man of Achen's tribe saved a child. Achen's eyes stared into another place, leaving him vulnerable to those who stepped into the room or witnessed what he was doing. The girl's body began to pulse as the energy flowed into her, enlivening her body to heal the bleeding and beckoning her soul to return from that darkness. Whispers could be heard like the breaths between moments, faint to even the most sensitive of ears. Promises of warmth and safety, of the potential for happiness and love. Love of life, children, and family. Love that was given and received. Achen felt it all as his body trembled, he reached for the brightest point he could see. A heart that did not beat, yet radiated the most love of all, he unveiled it and let the soul see that the promises were far from false. The soul came to that light, back into the world it was almost convinced to leave, chased away by fear and pain. Achen let out a hoarse moan then, collapsing to the floor. In the moments before he lost consciousness he spoke to that still heart, pulsing with a love he rarely ever saw.
"She has a chance, finish it. Save the soul by healing the body before it flees again."
Achen was unconscious then, drained by what had happened. The girl's body was no longer on the brink of shutting down and her soul had a firm grip on life once more. If Carlisle coud not finish healing her body, she would die a slower death.

Esme was silent as she was led away from the ER, what was there to say? Nothing could fix this mistake. Nothing could turn back the time and stop Ana from getting that wreck. As they got into Edward’s car Esme turned to her son, a wide frown across her face, “What happened? How did she wreck? What kind of car was it?” She asked suddenly. Esme was truly worried now, Carlisle didn’t want her left alone, that could only mean he thought she would do something. Did he think it was going to be a repeat of her human life? Dying because there was nothing to live for? Esme wasn’t like that anymore, she had plenty of reasons to live for and she could mention them all off the top of her head, Edward, Rosalie, Emmett, Alice, Jasper and most importantly Carlisle. Ana had become a huge part of her life; the loss of her would devastate Esme. She hoped it wouldn’t come to that. The motherly vampire, though caring, wasn’t weak like one would think. Sure, she was worried and a little hurt over the accident but she was still strong. She had to be, it was what kept her family together after all. She moved her gaze from her son and looked out the car window in thought, “Does he think I might do something drastic?” Esme asked Edward suddenly.

Once everyone left the emergency room Carlisle turned and headed back to find Ana. She was in a new room, having been out of surgery. Having located her medical chart, it was taken with him as he headed into the room. Just as he was about to step up towards her, he seen his co-worker Achen on the floor.
Blinking, he frowns. Setting the chart to Anas side on her bed, he bent over and pats Achens face lightly, but enough that it would hopefully stir him to consciousness. " come on Achen, wake up." He lifted back up, moved out of the room and called for two nurses and an orderly who would help lift Achen up and lay him in the next room til he gained senses fully. He hadn't a clue what had happened to Achen but had ordered the nursing staff to take his vitals and draw up some blood work.
While all that was being done with Achen, Carlisle headed back towards Anas room and checked her vital signs. She was on life support which he sat staring at for a while in worry. Unplugging her from such machinery had its cons and Carlisle knew this. He sighed in discomfort.
He didn't want to disconnect the tubing and turn off the machinery only to lose Ana. For a long while, Carlisle debated this until a nurse came in and broke him of the trance, telling him that Achen was stable and waking up. He gave the nurse a nod of head and spoke of his orders to have Achen remain there til the nurses felt strongly enough that he had regained his strength. The nurse complied and hurried out of the room to leave Carlisle to whatever he was doing.
Carlisle carefully unhooked the life support machine and pulled out the tubing that went inside Ana and held his breath. For now, she seemed to be alright, as far as shallow weak breathing went. He called for a stretcher and had one of the nurses carefully help him move Ana onto the stretcher and placed the chart next to her.
He pushed Ana through the hallways of the hospital and out to the parking lot of where his car was located. Must of been an odd sight had any stumbled across him, which thankfully none had. Once to his car, he got Ana situated in the back seat to the best of his abilities and brought the stretcher back to rest inside the hospital entrance where a nurse took it. Returning to his car and getting in, he started his car and drove home.
On the way home, he called Edwards cell and told him to be waiting for him to arrive and that he was going to need help getting Ana inside the house and to her bed. The cell call was then ended and he continued to drive home.
