JasperUlayjae'HaleCharacter Play-by:Jackson Rathbone name:Jasper Ulayjae' Hale age:Looks 18 gender:Male orientation:Straight race: Veggie Vamp birthplace:Rusk,Texas current location:Forks,Washington occupation:n/a
personality:Jasper Ulayjae' Whitlock was born on March 25th, 1843 in the small town of Rusk, Texas to William and Anna Whitlock. Jasper was their first child and the couple was ecstatic. They never had a great deal of money but they took care of their son, giving him everything that they could. William Whitlock was a young storekeeper, owning a grocery and dry goods store in a log house at the center of town. With the money he made from the store, he was able to give Jasper and his mother, Anna a good life. Their small home stood at the edge of town and while there wasn’t a great deal of forest in that area of Texas, there was plenty of running space. Even when Jasper was young, he would always run around with his friends, playing war games out back and having mock wrestling matches. More often than not, Jasper would come home completely covered in dirt. His mother would admonish him, but she would clean him up and the next day he would be right back out with the other boys.
Even at a young age, when most children are loveable and liked, Jasper was even more so. Jasper was brought up to be a gentlemen and was as disciplined as a young boy could be. Jasper was a lively, friendly boy with enough charm to get anything he wanted, but he never used it to his advantage. People were just happier around him, and that in turn made him happier. Jasper tended to shy away from anyone who was angry or upset, as it appeared to upset him even more so than the person who was angry. No one thought anything of it, not even Jasper, but subconsciously he knew there was more to this. He would always lend a willing hand and would help his father in the store they owned, delivering goods to people who ordered them or helping show around customers. When Jasper was ten, his father sold his store and went into the Insurance business. This helped his family gain a little more money and status, and so Jasper was finally able to attend at the small school house in town, since he did not have to work at the store every day. Jasper made friends easily, taking charge of any projects or events that were held by the other children, and everyone followed him willingly.
He started noticing how others were affected when they were around him as he grew older, noting that his emotions seemed to be extremely tied in with theirs. When Jasper was thirteen, there was a fight in the local saloon that was about to take a turn for the worse. Jasper had been passing by on his way home from a friend’s when he heard the commotion and decided to see what was going on. As he drew closer to the entrance, he was nearly overwhelmed with the feelings of anger and fear. It took all of his self control, and the discipline he had learned from his father, who had fought in the war of 1812, to not become angry or fearful himself. Jasper knew that, somehow, he had an effect on people and their emotions, and in this situation, he had to try and do something. Jasper entered the saloon, dodging a glass bottle that had been thrown at him, hearing it shatter on the wall behind him. The entire saloon was in chaos, with people hiding under tables, the bartender trying to break up the fight, and a large crowd gathered in the center. For the first time, Jasper tried to concentrate on calming them down. Before, he had never tried to focus on this unique ability he seemed to have, and the strain was too much. All he remembered was everything suddenly getting louder, and then blackness.
When Jasper came to, there were many people standing over him, asking if he was okay. Jasper immediately wanted to know what had happened, and apparently the two men had decided to put aside their differences, and while they were still angry, the fight had not ended in death. No one knew quite how that had happened, as it had been certain death before. Jasper was brought home and it took him several days before he had built up his strength. His parents were worried, but he was able to put on a show of false confidence and ease that seemed to help lessen their worry. Over the next few years, Jasper never again tried to focus on this strange ability, and instead dove into school and enjoying his time with his friends. War was looming on the horizon, and Jasper knew he would be called to the fight once he became eighteen, so this was the time to enjoy being with his family and friends. However, no matter how many people he surrounded himself with, Jasper never quite felt complete.
When Jasper was eighteen, in the year of 1861, the American Civil War erupted between the Northern and Southern states. Jasper was enlisted into the Confederate Army, finding himself quickly far away from home in Tennessee, fighting in countless engagements. With the honor and discipline Jasper had learned growing up, as well as his charismatic nature, he rose quickly through the ranks, and was promoted to Major in late 1862. He returned to Texas, leading a small battalion under Major General Magruder in an attempt to recapture Galveston on New Years Day in 1863. They were able to capture and kill most of the Union soldiers that fought against them, and were successful in recapturing Galveston.
It was the evening after their victory that Jasper’s life completely changed. This was a point where he was brought past the point of return, and would never be able to see those he loved again. Jasper had celebrated with his men for most of the evening, finally retiring to his tent much later that night. If everything continued to go well with the war, the South would have its independence and Jasper could return home to his family. That was something he wanted more than anything, although he was loyal to his cause, and would do his best while in the army. Jasper had lain down, and was almost to the point of sleep when someone entered his tent. He immediately leapt to his feet, reaching for his musket to defend himself, but found himself suddenly pinned to the ground, looking up into the features of a beautiful young woman. In the darkness, it was hard to see exactly who she was, and before Jasper could say or do anything, he felt an intense pain in his neck, and a fire seared through his entire body. A hand was clasped over his mouth when he tried to scream from the pain, and then he blacked out.
When he came to, everything was different. He was now seeing the world with new eyes. When he opened his eyes, he found himself in the woods, his back resting against a tree, and the woman standing only a few feet from him, watching. Jasper leapt to his feet, the speed almost disorienting him at first, and with a thirst so strong it felt as if he would die if he did not satisfy it. It was then that the young woman introduced herself as Maria, and explained to him what he now was: a vampire. There were also two others with her, and Jasper found himself suddenly deeply involved with the Southern Vampire Wars. Maria’s goal was to create an army of newborns, which in her view, would be unstoppable due to the strength and thirst of newborns. Jasper was introduced to her sisters, Nettie and Lucy, and grew close to two other members of the army, Peter and Charlotte.
With his ability to control emotions even stronger now that he was a vampire, Jasper became a key asset to Maria. He was able to keep the newborns from killing each other, and force them to work together. While in this army, Jasper and the others were able to take over many Mexican territories previously owned by other vampire clans. His lifestyle quickly became filled with violence, bloodlust, and unquenched thirst. Days and years went by without any sign of stopping. However, Maria’s bloodlust would take a new level when her sisters rebelled against the army and what they were doing. Maria ordered Jasper to help her defeat them and he did as he was told. Jasper quickly became known for his exceptional fighting skills, his discipline, and how quick he was. However, it was then that Jasper began to have second thoughts on what exactly he was doing, and how much blood was on his hands. When Maria ordered him to get rid of newborns that showed no potential, Jasper had finally had enough. Peter wanted to run off with Charlotte, one of the newborns Jasper was supposed to kill. Jasper should have killed them, but instead he let them go. Jasper continued to live under Maria’s reign, but he found that life had suddenly become miserable. There wasn’t anything he found he could look forward to, and couldn’t help but wonder if his life would always be filled with this ruthlessness and violence.
Nearly a century later, Jasper had just slain a clan of vampires in a territory Maria wished to conquer, and found himself standing before the burning pile of remains, sick to his stomach. It had been something that had been gnawing on him for years, this uncomfortable feeling of killing just for the sake of killing. It was then that Peter and Charlotte found him, having returned to tell Jasper of their experiences up North where there were vampires coexisting with humans. It seemed like a dream come true, as Jasper had never known another lifestyle. To him, humans were food, and there was no possible way for vampires to live among humans without needing to feed on them. Jasper left with them, needing to get away from the violence, and became part of a nomadic clan, living with Peter and Charlotte as they taught him how to live among humans. He still drank human blood, and while Jasper was learning, it was still incredibly difficult for him to be around humans, even after the years that followed living as a nomad. Of course, it is very hard to change a way of life after many decades.
It was a few years later that Jasper found himself in a small diner in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There was an incredible thunderstorm occurring outside, and Jasper ducked into the diner to escape the pouring rain. It wasn’t that it was uncomfortable to him, for the cold and wet didn’t even affect him. However, as he was attempting to live among humans, he had to do the “human” thing, and thus he ducked out of the pouring rain. Immediately upon entering, he was nearly overwhelmed with the smell of human blood, and it took all of his self control to restrain himself. He was about to leave, for the smell was becoming almost too much for him, when a young woman stopped him. Jasper gazed down at her, realizing immediately that she was just like him, except her eyes were golden, where his were still a deep crimson red, hidden by the sunglasses he wore presently. She began to talk about him, and he was startled to discover just how much she knew about him. He apologized sheepishly when she told him how long she had been waiting for him, bowing his head in respect. Somehow, it felt like the right thing to do. This woman, Alice, Jasper realized was exactly the piece he needed to finish his incomplete puzzle. It was as if they really were destined to find each other, and when Alice offered her hand in a silent request to leave the diner and start a new life together, he took it willingly. Alice told him of the Cullens, and how they existed off animal blood, and began to teach him. Slowly, but surely, they fell deeply in love, and their bond would be something that neither of them had ever experienced before. When they finally found the Cullens, they were welcomed into the family and Jasper Whitlock became Jasper Hale.
For the first time in a century, he felt hope.
They moved around for some time, matriculating quite a bit, only being able to stay in one area for a handful of years. The humans would notice if they stayed too long, and so they would pack up and move. They eventually found their way to Forks, Washington, in the United States. To live there in Forks and to remain in that place for a few years, the Cullens had to find ways to fit in as they had been for the past few decades. Jasper, along with Rosalie, Emmett, Edward, and Alice enrolled into Forks High School. For the others, it seemed that they had no problem blending in with the humans, although the Cullens always stayed together and did not befriend the humans around them. They were seen as aloof and in their own little world, but they preferred it that way, as they had no reason to get close to any humans. For Jasper, it was not easy, for every time he stepped foot inside the door of the school, he was overwhelmed with the scents of the humans, and the delicious temptation of their blood. If asked, any of the humans would have described Jasper as appearing to be constantly in pain, and very rigid. This was true, for Jasper's military bearing kept him in proper posture constantly, and he was always fighting to maintain control. One time they were outside after school when two boys were fooling around with skateboards and one crashed to the ground very hard. He scraped up his knees so much that blood flowed freely, and it was only due to both Emmett and Edward holding Jasper back and shoving him into the car, driving off quickly that the boy did not become Jasper's dinner. Alice had been there the entire time, trying to calm him, but he had blamed himself and withdrawn even further.
He felt like an outsider in his family. A liability.
It was only through long talks with Edward that Jasper began to feel more comfortable in his family, but he would never feel like he completely belonged. When a young girl by the name of Isabella Swan moved to Forks, Jasper originally thought nothing of it, but when Edward saved her from a near fatal car crash, betraying their secret, Jasper was furious. The entire house was like a live wire, his abilities affecting all the emotions around him, and he refused to talk to Edward. However, as he felt Edward's emotions change for the better when he was around Bella, and that Edward had finally found happiness, Jasper slowly came to accept their relationship. He reluctantly put up with having Bella come to the house, and partake in their family activities such as a baseball game during a vicious storm. However, it was that baseball game that would set things in motion that Jasper wasn't even sure Alice had seen completely. They would meet the human blood-drinking vampires Laurent, James, and Victoria, and when James went after Bella, Jasper assisted Alice in helping take her out of Forks and try and keep her safe. However, that would not last for long, for James managed to lure Bella out, and Jasper loses track of her, only to discover she was taken to her old ballet studio. Jasper hurried there, along with his brothers, and between him and Emmett they were able to destroy James for good.
Over the next year, Jasper's life was turned inside and out with the presence of Bella in their lives, nearly losing Edward when he tried to give himself to the Volturi, and having to leave Forks for an extended period of time. When they finally returned, Jasper was more than happy to vote "yes" in turning Bella into a vampire, for he no longer wanted to feel that bloodlust around her, or fight to maintain control. If she was going to be a permanent part of their lives, things had to change, and change they would. Things seemed to settle for a little while, until reports of ghastly killings near Seattle sparked their attention. It seemed that Victoria, still wanting revenge for James' death, was creating a newborn army, which the Cullens knew would only provoke the Volturi. A war was coming, and war was something that Jasper was accustomed to. He fell into the role of a teacher easily, having led hundreds of men in battle, and, along with explaining to Bella to help her understand these newborns, he also taught tactics, strategy, and combat knowledge to his family and the Quiletes, Forks' resident shape-shifters. It was an unusual alliance, but one that they would have to sustain in order to remain alive. Jasper used his intelligence, skill, and battle knowledge to assess each group, helping them see their weaknesses and strengths, and in turn was able to help them become stronger, more strategic fighters, and they were able to defeat the newborns.
It was only a matter of time before Bella joined their family for eternity, and while her pregnancy had been a rough ride, at one point making Jasper want to kill the unborn child in order to save Bella's life and therefore showing just how close they had become after all this time, when Renesmee was born, she was such a happy child that Jasper found himself not completely against her living any longer. He found that he enjoyed being near her, because her happiness influenced his own feelings, and made him feel that he wasn't a complete failure. Seeing how well Bella managed being a newborn, despite his initial fears, hurt him deeper than he would ever admit. He couldn't help but see himself as pathetic and weak. He had truly hoped that by Bella being a newborn, she would become the family's weakest link and he would no longer fall at the bottom. He was far wrong, and he felt it wasn't fair that she could have everything, control, a family, and Jasper was still struggling for control every moment of the day.
However, Jasper has to put these feelings aside when their family is put in danger by one of the Denali clan sisters, Irina, who saw Renesmee from a distance and thought her to be one of the immortal children. She told the Volturi, who began to gather their forces to come kill the supposed immortal child. They knew they had to do something, and when Alice came to Jasper telling him of a plan, of what she saw, Jasper went with her willingly to South America where they hunted for anyone who could help change the Volturi's minds about Renesmee. They went in secret, not wanting to alert anyone to what they were really doing. They eventually find what they are looking for in Chile, in a hybrid vampire named Nahuel. They brought Nahuel back to Forks just in time to prevent a catastrophic battle between the Cullens, their vampire and shape shifter allies, and the Volturi.
After the Volturi left, the Cullens returned to a more peaceful life, choosing to remain in Forks a little while longer. Even years later they found they still could not leave, and while Jasper and Alice often went on trips, not remaining in Forks very often, Jasper couldn't help but view Forks as a true home. They had moved so often during his decades, and he had done his duty to help them by using his connections in Seattle to create false documentation, but this was finally a place where Jasper felt he had found a place where he could, one day, belong. He still struggled with his hunger around humans, and while he didn't have to attend high school any more, going off to "college" as the story was told, Jasper thought that just maybe he might be able to finally control that lust. It had been a very long road, and there was still plenty of the journey left, as well as dealing with the day to day issues as roaming vampires visited, the Volturi kept a constant eye on them and those of them who had special abilities, and the fact that the town around them was changing despite the fact that the Cullens were forever frozen in time. When would that peace end? After having been through so many battles and nearly a century under Maria's control, Jasper couldn't help but feel that something was coming, something would change all of this, and that happiness never lasted for long.

roleplay sample: The hunting trip had been pretty successful, Jasper reasoned. He had managed to outsmart a mountain lion, or rather he had just used decades of hunting strategy and skill to lure his prey into thinking it had the upper hand when he was right there all along. Between Emmett, Edward, and Jasper, they had managed to clean out quite a few predators and prey from the forest that weekend. It was overall a good hunting trip, full of competition per usual, and Jasper had managed not to come out at the bottom. Now fully fed, Jasper returned home only to find that no one was there. He caught the faint scents of his family; they had been there recently. He searched for one scent in particular, following it to the garage where he saw that Alice’s Porsche was missing. He smiled softly, wondering if she was off on another shopping trip.
He had one quick errand to do before she returned. He might beat her home, he might not, but regardless he would have a surprise for her. Jasper snatched the keys to the black Corvette and slid inside. The car purred to life as he turned the keys in the ignition and then he sped away from the house, heading to Port Angeles. It didn’t take him long to reach the bustling down, for just like the rest of his family, Jasper enjoyed driving fast. Back when he had been human, the only mode of transportation had really been by horseback or carriage unless one wanted to deal with a boat or train. Cars were far more enjoyable and he had been pleased when they had been invented. They made things much easier.
Jasper made a quick stop to pick up a silver necklace that he had caught Alice eyeing the last time he had been taken on a shopping trip with her, and then headed back home. It pleased him greatly to see Alice’s yellow Porsche in the garage. His love was home. Smiling, he slid the necklace into the pocket of his black collared shirt and ran up the front steps, entering through the front door. Moments later, Alice was there to greet him. He didn’t catch any strong scents of their other family members, meaning that it was just him and Alice. Around her, he seemed to relax more, especially when they were alone, although his military upbringing would always ring in his personality and the way he carried himself.
