The smell of papers, coffee, and the occasional doughnut were enough to drive a man crazy. Day after day he’d been stuck in his office, filing random papers that meant nothing to him. It was torture, plain and simple. The streets had been quiet as of late, giving Jeremiah absolutely nothing to do but bury his nose in court case papers. No action, no chase…just a normal, everyday office job.
“Officer Evans.”
An authoritative voice echoed from behind him and immediately his ears perked up. Not because he had been doing anything wrong, but he had hopes to hear of some bank robbery or fatal accident. The man seemed to notice the anxiety and took a change to his course of conversation.
“Take the rest of the day off. It’s slow around here and you look like you could use an evening outside the station.”
It wasn’t quite what Jeremiah was looking for, but who was he to argue? At least with the afternoon off he might be able to see Lisa. They had both been busy with work and only really were able to spend time with each other when their work schedule’s permitted. He knew she had the day off, so he hoped she hadn’t already made plans.
Nodding to the Chief of police, Jeremiah thanked him and began to gather his few belongings. Among them were his gun, duty belt, and car keys. He couldn’t help but let a small frown form. He missed the days when Seattle was in a constant state of emergency. It meant he was always needed. Nowadays, his gun and affects were proving useless. He hadn’t fired or even held gunpoint in over two months. He wondered what caused the sudden change of pace. A part of him knew it had something to do with the lack of vampires around this area, but for obvious reasons he couldn’t say that out loud. Everyone else just attributed it to people forming morals.
Sighing lightly, he clicked the light to his small cubical office off and headed out the door. It didn’t take him long to get to his car, and before he got in he pulled out his phone and sent a short text to his love. Missing you. Meet me at the park in an hour? It had been a while since they’d done anything special together. She was always so patient with him and his job and he wanted to make it up to her. Smiling at the thought of seeing her, he got into his car and made haste towards the store a few miles away, hoping to hear his phone vibrate with a text back that said ‘yes.’

The words on the page in front of her started to blur together. Squeezing her eyes shut, Lisa snapped the book closed and rolled over onto her back. It was a nice enough day outside but she just hadn’t felt like going out. Most of her friends were busy with work still and those that didn’t had already made plans for the day. Staring up at the ceiling, she wondered what Jeremiah was up to. He had complained about work being boring the last few months. They had both contributed it to much of the supernatural world that they lived in having dropped off the radar as the war continued between the vampires and shifters. Jeremiah and Mark had been able to keep the pack out of the war, which she was glad of. They didn’t need that around here. With a sigh, Lisa let her thoughts drift from the war and the pack to Jeremiah. She could see him in her mind’s eye and it brought a smile to her face. The only thing that could have made her day off better was if she had been able to spend it with Jeremiah. But sadly her had to work and she knew he loved his job, it was part of why she loved him so much.
Thoughts were crossing her mind about maybe going over to the shop to see Mark and any others that were around when her cell phone buzzed. Rolling over, she grabbed the sparkly black phone and flipped it open. Eyes scanning the text, Lisa grinned and sent back a short message. Miss you too love. And of course I will. =) Closing the phone, she sat up on the edge of the bed and looked around. She had taken a shower when she woke up that morning…well mid-morning. Having the day off she had said good bye to Jeremiah as he left for work and then went back to sleep. After her shower though, she had never gotten dressed passed her cami and shorts. Bouncing over to the closet she being searching though her clothes for something to wear. While looking, she wondered if Jeremiah was off from work early or just had a break in an hour. Either way she would get to see him and she was ecstatic about that. Stopping on a short gray dress with black flower designs on up the left side, she grinned and pulled it down. It was one she hadn’t worn in awhile and although the sun was behind clouds, the weather was warm enough for the short sleeved dress.
Lisa changed quickly and went into the bathroom and pulled her hair back into a single braid that ran down her back. Glancing once at her reflection, she smiled and slipped out of the apartment that she now shared with Jeremiah. Getting ready had taken her all of twenty minutes and the walk to the park would take her another twenty. She was glad for the apartment they had. It was close to the city for both their jobs and yet it didn’t have the inner city feel to the area. As she walked, she began to think about the past. She had gotten her job because of Jeremiah; it had been when she had first met him. Lisa loved her job; the only thing about it was that it was rare for Jeremiah to take her to his favorite restaurant now. She felt bad about that. But it was because she worked there. It was hard for them to have a proper date and be alone when all the staff knew them. Chuckling, Lisa smiled as she remembered running into Jeremiah that day she had begun her job hunt. He had been out on duty and she had literally bumped into him. She remembered thinking that he was very cute. Chuckling to herself she also remembered how much he had helped her to become who she was today. Without Jeremiah she would most likely still be struggling with her wolf.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Arriving to the park twenty minutes earlier than planned, Lisa decided to continue her thoughts and take a walk around the lake there. She waited on a text or call from Jeremiah telling her that he was here. Lisa was all smiles as she walked and waited her love to text her.
notes; She pushed o.o She wanted out very much
The ’07 black Honda Accord coupe pulled into the crammed parking lot around the back of what appeared to be a small local supermarket. As he got out of his sleek car, he had the appearance of a complete stereotypical police officer. His black uniform was all in tact. From golden star on the upper left side to the shined name plate that was pinned on the right, he had it perfect. His shirt was completely buttoned and a solid black tie with a silver clip held it in place. And to top the outfit off, sporty black sunglasses protected his eyes from the peeking sun. He definitely walked with authority, and anyone who passed him knew it. He found it rather humorous, because while he played the tough officer…those who were actually close to him knew how affectionate and gentle he could be…especially Lisa.
Another smile peered on his face as he walked into the store, checking his phone to make sure he still had enough time. As if by fate, the phone vibrated and there was an incoming text from his love. The words on the screen only widened his smile as he locked the phone screen and began his shopping. He bought a few things here and there, rummaging up and down the isles trying to find what he was looking for. It was only in that moment why he knew women always did all the shopping. He was completely lost when it came to where things were.
Finally locating the rest of what he was looking for, he quickly made his way to the checkout. Handing the man what cash he owed, he tipped the rest of the change to the cashier and walked out. Money wasn’t an issue for Jeremiah, especially not given the estate he inherited when his father died. He always tipped when he could and the extra few dollars in change was a reasonable amount. Still smiling at the thought of the night to come, he put the things in the trunk of his car, got in, and began heading towards the park.
It was about 5 o’clock when he arrived, and he made haste to a quiet, lake side patch of grass in the lawn. It was there that he set everything up…making sure the time was right before he called her. Choosing a place just out of sight from where he had been, he told her to meet him there in ten minutes.
------
He knew it wouldn’t take her nearly that long just due to the fact that they were both lycans and everything seemed to move in fast forward. Even normal things just seemed to have an accelerated pace to them. And just as he thought, it wasn’t long before her beautiful frame came into sight. Every time he laid eyes on her, his breath was taken away. She was dressed in a cute short dress and her hair was braided back nicely. He loved it, especially when she pulled her hair back because it gave light to her gorgeous face. Walking the rest of the way to meet her, he immediately drew her into a loving embrace with a kiss soon to follow. Inhaling her scent for a moment, he smiled. She always smelled like a field of flowers; fresh, beautiful, and blooming. “Right this way, my love.” His hand crept to hers as he began to lead her to the spot he had found for the two of them.
Upon arriving, it was very clear what Jeremiah was going for and he couldn’t have had more perfect timing. A blanket was spread out over the evergreen grass, and there were two baskets set up on either side of the top left corner. One was filled with food for the evening, the other had wine and the sort. A couple candles were lit surrounding the blanket and a bouquet of a dozen red roses was illuminated between them. In the background, on the horizon, the sun was setting, casting vibrant rays of red, orange and yellow over the sky. A sunset picnic by the lake…how much more romantic could it get?
“Surprise…” He whispered, squeezing her hand lightly and casting a glance at her to see her reaction. “I know we never get to do anything special…so I thought what better night than tonight?” In the baskets, he had Caesar salad, marinated chicken and cold cut wraps, and chocolate covered strawberries. He also made sure to bring some champagne and wine. It wasn’t much…but it was all the supermarket had that he could buy on such spur of the moment. “I hope you like it…”
The water in the lake next to her rippled lightly in the wind. She watched as the small waves rushed across the water to the other side. Lisa had always loved the peaceful calm that the lake had. In her most stressful times, being there had always gotten her head straight. Nature had that effect on her.
On top of the lake being her place to calm down, it had been where Jeremiah had taken her on their first date. That night he had explained much of what she was. They had gone to dinner at his favorite restaurant and then a wonder walk. She smiled as she remembered the times. She had been less busy at the start of their relationship, before she had gotten her job. Now they were both busy, him more than here but at least living together allowed them to see each other every day, even if it was only for a little bit.
Lisa’s phone buzzed in her hand then, and she quickly answered it, grinning as she heard Jeremiah’s voice. She made it to where he asked her to meet him in less time than he had given. When she caught sight of him she smiled. He was standing there, in his uniform. Lisa had always loved a man in uniform. The first time she had ever seen him, he had been in it too. And he wore it well, she was also quite sure that he knew it too. Of course, seeing him in his uniform made her think this was just a break for him, but still it was nice. She watched him watch her for a moment before he came over to her.
She hugged him back tightly, glad to see him. Kissing him back, she pulled back from the kiss reluctantly. A soft smile played on her lips as she watched him. Taking her hand in his, she let him lead her to where he had set things out for them.
Her eyes took in the scene before her. It was perfect. The scene took her breath away, turning to look at Jeremiah, she smiled at him. How had she ended up with someone so perfect she would never understand.
“It’s wonderful.” She grinned up at him as she squeezed his hand back lightly, before pulling him into a hug again. She kissed his neck softly and whispered in his ear. “How did I get you all to myself?” Smiling softly she pulled away from him. Taking his hand, she pulled him gently onto the blanket and settled in against him. “So does this mean you’re off for the night?” Moving to start taking things out of the basket, she glanced back at him as he spoke. “I love it hun.” She grinned. “Almost as much as I love you.” Chuckling lightly she set about getting the salad and chicken out for them both.
It made Jeremiah smile when he felt her reluctance to pull back from their kiss. He didn’t want to either, but he was sure there would be more to come later in the night. His boss had given him the rest of the night off, which meant he was hers. Regrettably, he hadn’t brought an extra change of clothes, but something told him she didn’t mind seeing him in his uniform. With his sandy blonde hair and blue eyes, he knew he was a sight for sore eyes…especially with Lisa. The feelings were mutual though, and from the kiss it was obvious to tell.
As he awaited her reaction, he couldn’t help but realize how surreal the moment was. Everything just seemed to be fitting in place, and he was glad. He felt a small tug and was soon pulled into a hug. He graciously accepted it and hugged her back tightly…never wanting her fragile frame to leave his embrace. Of course, he knew fragile wasn’t quite the correct word. If anything, she was almost just as strong as him now that she’d reached Alpha ranking. But, in his eyes, she was still vulnerable. Not by strength of her beast, but by the fragileness of women in general. He would always protect her…physically and emotionally. Since the two had dated, they’d only been in a handful of arguments…most about stupid things that lasted less than ten minutes. The two had never seriously fought, and for that Jeremiah was thankful. He didn’t handle conflict well, and it prided him to know the two meshed perfectly in personality. She really was the Lupa to his Ulfric.
She whispered that sweet, playful question into his ear before drawing back from a hug and he smiled down at her. “I should be asking you that same question.” There was a love in his eyes that was always present when he was around Lisa. No matter what, she brought out the best in him. “I’m glad you like it.” He added, as she began to lead them to the blanket. He situated as she pulled him down, her frame fitting perfectly against his. She asked if this meant he was off for the night and he smiled, nodding. “Yeah, things are slow and the chief let me have the rest of the night off.” His arm instinctively brushed down the small of her back and came to a rest on her side. As she moved to set the food up for the two of them, he leaned in and kissed her shoulder blade affectionately. Her words of loving it made him smile. He was glad she liked it, and he was glad to be spending this time with her. “I love you too.” He responded, grinning happily. Running his hand back up her back and through her hair gently, he spoke softly. “So tell me, what has my beautiful love been up to lately?” The two had barely seen each other the past few days except for in the mornings before he left and at night when he came home. They exchanged normal conversation, but the two hadn’t actually got to sit down and enjoy each other’s company for a while. “Is work still going well?” He asked, remembering their first date at the restaurant she now worked at. The thought made him smile and pull her just a bit closer.
