Tanya had ventured off from her coven. It wasn't a permanent change, but she had told them she wanted to visit her Cullen friends in America, of which they agreed would be good for her. Tanya was extremely depressed lately, and needed a break. It was weird to think that she needed a break from doing nothing, but she really did. It was hard for her to sit around her coven of couples, being the only one without a mate despite being the leader. The idea of being without a mate made her feel not only unloved but lonely. She knew that she would need to come to terms with the fact that obviously something about her was just not good enough for anyone.
She thought about Edward, and how she had obviously not been enough for him. She thought about the other men, vampires and humans, whose lives she tried to wedge herself in. Still, she had no luck in the end. She wasn't sure what was wrong with her. Tanya walked down the streets of Port Angeles, Washington, thinking those thoughts. It was a dark day with an occasional shower - just the kind of day she liked. Tanya figured that if her coven ever needed to get away from Denali, they would fit right into the Washington area. Nipping at her lower lip, though soft enough as to not cause bleeding, she continued to walk. She came across a shop of mirrors, and turned to face the shop's window. Three tall mirrors stood high, with different woods and different designs about the corners. She cared not about the integrity of the mirror. Tanya stared, instead, at the glass itself.
She looked into the mirror for a few moments, before turning away and continuing to walk. She held her emotions in, without giving herself away to being upset. Tanya gulped lightly, then slipped into a small cafe on her right. It wasn't all that crowded, but there were a few people around. Well...they weren't really people - they were couples. Sighing, she nodded to the hostess who gaped at her in awe. Yea yea, so she was slightly prettier compared to the average human being. Big deal. Tanya rolled her eyes, took a seat at the table that the girl took her to, and looked at the menu like she was actually going to order something. Really, she just wanted to see what places like that served those days. The stinging in her throat was irritating. She could feel the burning sensation itching at one place in her throat, then jumping to another every couple seconds. Deciding upon ordering a simple cup of ice water for looks, Tanya spoke to the waiter who admired her. After he was half-carried away by the hostess, she turned and looked out the window, leaning her head on the glass. She watched the rain drops slip and drop against the glass, then fall gracefully into a puddle on the pavement. It was nice, really, to sit there and do something peaceful rather than chasing meals.

Screeching to a halt Edward was just heading back to Forks. He was in Port Angele's buying more books and journals to carry back with him to his new apartment he had with Brooke in Italy. He was starting to build his collection again. There was nothing really for him in this town he was so glad he was heading out tomorrow. Nothing in his way.
He pulled to a stop at a corner of the cafe. And happened to look inside the window. And saw a familiar face. He furrowed his eye brows slightly...Should he stop in and say hello? What was she doing away from Alaska any way? But he couldn't help himself. She was after a friend. So he turned the corner to the parking lot and parked his car as he got out he locked it with his keys and walked around to the cafe and walked in...As soon as he walked in people starred...Geez...that was a bit annoying. But Edward was used to it by now.
"Excuse me Miss...Is this seat taken?"
He asked her as he walked up to her and smiled sweetly at her in a friendly way. What were the odds of running into some one you knew? It happened quite often it seemed...Edward still remained standing as he looked down at the beautiful creature he's not seen in so long....

Staring at the rain, Tanya couldn't help compare the world to herself at that moment. It was like the clouds had feeling, like they were crying the tears that she couldn't bring herself to. With each raindrop, there was a small sting to her heart. Tanya simply thought she was better off dead. There was really no point in her living a life alone, despite having a great coven of her own. Was that all she was meant to do - be a leader? She didn't want to lead alone. There was always a king with a queen.
Apparently, the case wasn't in her castle. Then, a familiar voice echoed through her ears. The familiar scent of a Cullen brushed across her senses, and she turned her head instinctively in the direction of the male. It took her a moment to take it in. She hadn't seen Edward in quite some time, and yet he looked the same - just as he did when he visited her in Denali. He was still so beautiful, so strong, and so humorous. He spoke few words, but they said it all. Sadly, she was quite sure that he had someone special. It would have been great for them to pursue something between them, but some things just weren't meant to be. Instead of draining her mental abilities by recovering the past memories of her infatuation with Edward, she used a few muscles and spared a smile.
"Edward Cullen...why, of course not...if you can take it," she said whole-heartedly. She leaned her elbow on the table, resting her head in her palm. Tanya looked at him sideways, grinning. "How have you been? What's new? Don't leave anything out, please,"
[/color] she said, smiling though meaning every word. Her life was quite boring in Alaska, and the adventures of Edward Cullen seemed to be sufficient to solve her boredom. He was always so exciting, a thing that she liked of him. Being friends with someone who could tell the most outrageous, yet dramatically inclined stories was excellent for days like that...for days that she needed a small smile to cross her path. "Edward Cullen...why, of course not...if you can take it," He couldn't help but laugh a little and grin from ear to ear as he sat down across from her...."How have you been? What's new? Don't leave anything out, please," "Where do I start?" But before he could even answer Tanya, a waitress came up ready to order for Edward not knowing he was a vampire. "What can I get ya doll?" "Nothing. Thanks..." Edward looked up at the pretty little waitress a bit of an annoyed look.
"KK Lemme know if ya change ya mind..." She soon walked away. Edward then looked at Tanya. "I've been pretty good. What about you? Still living in Alaska? Or did you finally decide to join the rest of us pale faces on the main land?" He asked her back. As he rested his left hand on the table she would see his wedding band. But he did not eve give that a thought. He thought for moment how beautiful she was. But then again she did not age. Neither did he. He looked the same the day he had left her. There was nothing but friend ship towards her. He could only offer that. He was a married man. He thought this little meeting would be pleasant. He didn't want any old feelings to return. He was trying his best to make it plain and clear that he was not going to go through that again.....
((Hope this is okay^^))

Tanya was very interested in Edward's life. She really wanted to hear about what he had been up to. As such, she got pretty annoyed when the waitress came up and bothered him with questions he didn't need to be asked. Ha, if it only it were easier for the world to know of their existence - then they would never be bothered with menus or silly questions. They would simply be told there was a deer outside, or even bring in a couple plates of rabbit. How delicious.
She nodded, then looked to his hand and saw a wedding band. Tanya gaped a little, before closing her mouth and looking at him. It wasn't really jealousy that came over her, moreso shock. She knew that Edward seemed to be the marrying type, but the question was who did he marry? Tanya knew Edward to be a man of very rare delicacy, and she hoped he hadn't made a mistake in marrying someone wrong for him. She cared about Edward dearly, though like a brother and nothing more. At least, not anymore. Tanya didn't say anything about it, though. If he wanted to discuss it, he would.
Tanya laughed lightly, shaking her head. "No no no, my coven is still back home in Alaska. I just needed to get away...be alone for a bit," she said, nodding contently. She rather enjoyed being on her own. Well...not exactly. It wasn't so much the alone part she liked, more that she liked not being around her coven of couples. She enjoyed all of their company, but lately it seemed they were all snuggling and loving more than usual - something she admired and desired. Still, she had come to terms with the fact that she was nothing to be desired. She was a monster, and her sole purpose was to lead her coven...alone. "Do you enjoy living in Forks, still?" she asked curiously. She wasn't sure if Edward and his new mate planned to stay there with his family, or if they were going to leave.

"No no no, my coven is still back home in Alaska. I just needed to get away...be alone for a bit," Edward nodded he understood that all to well. "Do you enjoy living in Forks, still?" Edward looked down. Did she need to know that he was a married man? Did she need to know that he was a Volturi now? What would she have to say about it? "I'm no longer living in Forks..." He said softly and uneasy at her. He looked at her when she saw his wedding ring. And he knew she knew. He didn't even have to read her mind to know what she was thinking. Okay, maybe he did. She knew his power though. So she would not be in shock that he knew what she was thinking.
"Yes, I just got married about a month ago. To the most beautiful woman I ever set eyes on...Not that you're not beautiful....I mean...Uh.." Damn it...He just stumbled over his words. He was not one to have his words twisted around like that. But it happened to him rarely. He sat up in his seat as he took his hands off the table then and laid them in his lap. She already saw his ring. So what else was there to hide? It was only natural he would feel sorta out of place here with her. Considering he used to be with her. He looked down slightly. "Sorry. I um...I never stutter. You know me that well." He apologized. "We are leaving for Italy in a few days. I was just stocking up on materials I would need for the new place. I would tell you, you haven't aged a bit....But we both know why you haven't..." He teased her slightly. As he was trying to feel unnerved by her presence. She was beautiful. That was no lie. But he was constantly reminding himself he was a married man...What was the hell wrong with him? He was thinking about the past with Tanya? "You look good...."

The surrounding area grew quiet as Tanya centered in on Edward. She knew he could read her thoughts, but she didn't really care. She wasn't going to adjust her own mind to censor what she was thinking. Anything she was thinking, he was free to know. She would have said it anyway if he couldn't read her. "I'm not longer living in Forks..." he said. As she listened to him say it, pronounce the words, she couldn't believe it. If someone was to marry into the Cullen family, she would have imagined they would all stay together. They were a family, and that was the way it was supposed to be. They were a coven. They weren't supposed to separate....ever.
Tanya was a bit annoyed with this. Was his new wife forcing him to leave, or was he doing it by pure choice? And then he told her he was going to Italy. She put it together. So...he had joined the Volturi. Tanya couldn't look at him. She looked down at her hands, which were shaking slightly underneath the table. How could he join them? Tanya and her coven always obeyed the law, but that wasn't to say they liked it. They were in fear of it, from what disobeying it had done to their creator - their mother. And here was Edward, supposedly a decent vampire, going to 'enforce the law' alongside those monsters. While Tanya thought herself to be a monster meant for loneliness, she knew for a fact she was not as vicious as the Volturi.
She knew he could read her thoughts, but she didn't care. She could still speak her mind. "Edward, how could you..." she whispered lightly, then looked up into his eyes. Her eyes were golden from her recent feed, but she didn't even notice the color of his. All she saw was his face, looking beautiful as ever, but disgusting her at the same time. Still, she was a friend - a friend who would never turn her back on another friend because of poor choices. Coughing slightly, she retrieved a small laugh from somewhere in her throat. "Yes, you're not one to be known for getting nervous," she said clearly, leaning back in her chair and folding her arms over chest. As he said she looked good, she softly scoffed. "Don't flatter me, Edward. I'm only seemingly beautiful because of this immortal curse. I'll never be truly beautiful in anyone's eyes," she said huskily under her breath. She bit her lower lip and looked down, then up again. "Don't try convincing me otherwise. I'm tired of being told how beautiful and charming I am. I'm nothing but a blood-sucking monster, and when someone finally kills me off I'll be damned to hell. It's all so simple, really."

"Edward, how could you..." He looked up at her with the sharpest eyes he could give her. "I did not do it out of my own free will..." Edward was well aware that she knew he was a Volturi. What? Would she be calling him a goon now too? Wouldn't be the first time. "Yes, you're not one to be known for getting nervous," "Don't flatter me, Edward. I'm only seemingly beautiful because of this immortal curse. I'll never be truly beautiful in anyone's eyes," "Don't try convincing me otherwise. I'm tired of being told how beautiful and charming I am. I'm nothing but a blood-sucking monster, and when someone finally kills me off I'll be damned to hell. It's all so simple, really."
Edward swallowed harder than he ever had in his life. But he knew how she was. She was a bit like himself. He believed the same thing that she just said. Should he tell her about what happened to Bella? That he had to leave her for the sake of her life? He wasn't sure if he should tell her that. "It's not Bella..." He started explain to her that it was not Bella he was married to. He heard her say her name in her mind. And he had to tell her that. Tanya had the right to know. He was a Volturi....But he was not going to stoop down to their level. Even Esme made it possible to where he did have to kill if he couldn't handle it....
"It's not Bella...She's the reason I'm with the Volturi...." There he said it. He hoped she would not be disappointed int him...Like everyone else had been....She was one of his long time friends. And now a days, his friends were coming up short..."I had to save her life....She was still human as the Volturi found out. Well, you know how manipulative Aro can be....I had no choice but to make the decision on my own to save Bella's life...And then, I met my wife.....I was ready to give up because Bella left me before I had a chance to tell her why I had to leave....But I met Brooke....And here I am...Don't worry about me...For I feel the same way you feel...But the only one keeping me alive or what ever you want to put it as it is....Is my indeed my wife..."

Edward seemed nervous at first. He seemed to think that Tanya wouldn't want to be friends anymore, and that surely wasn't the case. Tanya was going to be Edward's friend to the end, because family is family. She considered Edward family from the moment she met Carlisle, and had ever since. Family never gives up on their own, ever. Tanya ran her hand through her blond, wavy hair and watched him closely. She was in for a shock, though. "It's not Bella..."
Tanya couldn't believe what she was hearing. How could it not be Bella? Isabella Swan, the girl that Edward had grown so fond of and adored, was not his wife? Tanya absolutely was horrified. Now, she knew Edward had made a mistake. Whether or not he would ever admit to it she could not predict, but she knew that Edward was meant to be with Bella, no one else. As he spoke further, she could see that he cared for the woman he called his wife. At the same time, though, she also saw that he could not get Bella out of his thoughts. She sensed that there was still a spark inside of him, a small part of him that still loved her.
She coughed slightly, then leaned back in her chair and looked at the floor. She didn't want to look at him. "You could have gone after her," she said simply. Love wasn't complicated. In fact, it was so simple and people made it complicated. All Edward had to do when Bella left was simply go after her. She would have accepted his apology. And if she was stubborn, she still would have confessed her true love for him, and they would be together still. It was ruined. Edward had married someone else, someone he was not meant to be with - and Tanya thoroughly believed it. On the contrary, though, she knew Edward could read her thoughts and would know of her disbelief. She didn't care. He deserved to know. And while he would probably stay with this other woman for the rest of his life, she knew that Edward would forever regret not going after Bella.

"You could have gone after her," And by the look on her face she looked like she had just seen a ghost when he told her it was not Bella he was married to. Great, another one telling him he made a terrible mistake..."If I had gone after her, she would be dead now. I couldn't live with guilt. Could you?" It was true. He deeply still loved Isabella with all his being. Everyone knew that. Would there ever be a day that they would be together again? Edward had hoped it would happen before he fell in love with some one else. He was married to Brooke. He loved Brooke. But was he really kidding himself here? Was this what was meant to be? Everyone else even Jasper thinks he made a mistake. Maybe if the rest of the Cullens were there that day, he was kidnapped by the Volturi things would've turned out different. How they did not know where Edward had disappeared off to was beyond him.
"You think I screwed up...What's one more to think of me that way...It's nothing new. Even Carlisle and Esme are disappointed in me. My own parents. They don't trust Brooke. None of my family do. You'd think maybe odd right? Considering they trusted a human before they would their own kind? Why does everyone keep telling me I made the wrong choice? I'm not perfect. Who is? And don't hide your true feelings for me either..." He looked her dead on her eyes with a straight face....He was loosing everyone he ever cared about. It was natural he would loose Tanya as well....

Tanya listened to him speak, then shook her head. "You and I both know that you could have lived together. She didn't have to die. You could have made her one of us," she whispered. "I know what you think of your soul, because it's how I feel about mine. But if I loved a human as much as you loved Bella, I'd throw it all away. If someone could love me the way Bella loved you, there would be no remorse in making her immortal, to have her forever," she said, looking up into his eyes. She shivered slightly. The idea of him having love, love that she so desperately wanted, and throwing it away...it was a crime.
Who is? And don't hide your true feelings for me either..." Through his words, Tanya could feel he was hurting. "Your family knows best, it's a known fact. Everyone's family knows what's best for them. I just don't understand why you wouldn't believe Esme and Carlisle in the first place. They've practically been your life, spare the life you had before the change. Why didn't you listen to them? Or listen to your brothers and sisters?" she questioned, but really she knew the answer. Edward was stubborn that way.
His last words, though, made her eyes widen. She growled slightly, sitting up and putting her hands on the table. "Edward, don't bring that up, please," she said harshly, then leaned back in her chair and sighed. "I've come to terms with the fact that we're not meant for each other, alright? Sure, you're surely attractive, and I adore your personality...but I'm quite sure that it's Bella you're meant for...not me, and certainly not anyone else," she said softly. "You're family to me, a dear friend. And as a friend, I, in turn, am going to get over these feelings for you. Destiny has a funny way of sneaking into people's lives, and I've come to realize that, now."

"You and I both know that you could have lived together. She didn't have to die. You could have made her one of us," "I know what you think of your soul, because it's how I feel about mine. But if I loved a human as much as you loved Bella, I'd throw it all away. If someone could love me the way Bella loved you, there would be no remorse in making her immortal, to have her forever,"
That first night he had rescued Bella from James he thought he was going to have to make her one of them. But it did not end up that way. He was able to save her before she transformed into a vampire. Her scream echoed in his mind just then. He shut his eye tightly as though trying to shut the memory out. She made sense. Tanya did. Why hadn't he turned Bella when Bella wanted it.? That night of their prom night came back. It was amazing that Edward could not forget any thing. Being a vampire did that for you. He was silent as she spoke on....
"Your family knows best, it's a known fact. Everyone's family knows what's best for them. I just don't understand why you wouldn't believe Esme and Carlisle in the first place. They've practically been your life, spare the life you had before the change. Why didn't you listen to them? Or listen to your brothers and sisters?"
"Don't...Lecture me." He said coolly at her. And he hoped she got his message. That that was meant for his family.
"Edward, don't bring that up, please," "I've come to terms with the fact that we're not meant for each other, alright? Sure, you're surely attractive, and I adore your personality...but I'm quite sure that it's Bella you're meant for...not me, and certainly not anyone else,"
"It's like diamonds... you're beautiful." "Beautiful? This is the skin of a killer, Bella... I'm a killer." "I don't believe that. " "That's because you believe only the lies... "
Damn it why could he not stop this....? Was it true what everyone was saying? Was he actually meant for Isabella Swan? He thought he was until Aro found out he kept her human. The memories were not helping him. The lectures he got from his family and friends were not helping. He was married to Brooke. Why didn't any one see that? Why couldn't they just let Bella go? Because they all knew he could not. He would never let her go. He was protecting her right now and she knew not what he was doing for her.
"I didn't mean to put false thinking in your mind. How can you be so damned sure I'm meant for only Bella?"

"Don't....lecture me." His words slightly stung her. She wasn't intentionally trying to lecture him, only to make him see what he was trying to erase. You can't erase ink once it's on the pages. You can smear it, or even crumple it up, but it can never be fully gone. That was how Bella would be to him. He could try and replace her with someone else, he could try and cover up his feelings, but in the end Isabella Swan was forever going to be in his heart. Tanya just wanted him to be true to himself, really. She knew Edward could be stubborn, and she didn't want him to ruin his life because he was worried of the thoughts of others.
Still, she slightly wanted to drop the subject. To be honest, Edward was beginning to frighten her a bit. His voice was agitated and he didn't seem his normal, happy self. He seemed darker. Tanya gulped as he spoke again. "I didn't mean to put false thinking in your mind. How can you be so damned sure I'm meant for only Bella?" Now, she was irritated. Biting her lip hard, she felt blood seep out coldly. "I don't appreciate being talked to that way, Edward," she scoffed, standing up. She leaned her hand on the table, staring down at him. She could feel herself getting heated, and didn't want to make a scene. She clenched her eyes tight together, then bit her lip harder and turned away, beginning to walk away.
Tanya turned around, though. She stared at him for a moment before shaking her head. "Because lions don't cease their attack on a lamb for no reason," she said harshly. She turned once more and headed out the door, down the cold pavement alone. She hadn't wanted this. She figured that her encounter with Edward and the Cullens would be joyous, that it would get her mind off things. Instead, her mind was swarming with thoughts. Why had Edward acted so irate with her? She merely told him her true and honest feelings, which of course he read before she even opened her mouth.
She sunk into a bench outside of a cafe and buried her head in her hands. Tanya wasn't sure where her life was going. She didn't want to be alone. She was already at a loss for a mate, and now she was losing her friends. What was next? What was she going to lose next to make her immortal life as a hideous monster even worse? Gulping, the smell of vampire thrilled her senses once more, and she looked up.

"I don't appreciate being talked to that way, Edward," By this time she had stood up and was starting to leave when she said this to him, "Because lions don't cease their attack on a lamb for no reason," He looked up at her when she said that. That he did not expect her to say. And it made him really really think. After she left his expression softened as he looked down at the table. He slammed his palm on the table as he looked down. He read her thoughts the moment she was getting up. She was disappointed in him. He looked and sounded darker to her. He would never be that cold with her. She knew him all to well. What was happening to him? He used to be sweet, easy to talk to, a good listener and above all, a good friend to her. What were the Volturi doing to him? He was changing. It was not his fault...But some thing in his mind told him he should apologize to Tanya.
Luckily she did not wander off far. He saw her take a seat out side the same cafe. And Edward walked outside to rejoin her. "I'm sorry. That wasn't me in there...My evil twin..." He tried to make her laugh. He could look in her mind but he would respect her and not care to know what she was thinking about. He wanted her forgiveness...And hoped she would accept it. He was not the same though that was true. He took his seat beside her and looked out at the road before them...All the cars going back and forth and the side walk was filled with humans getting on about where they had to go...People who were unaware they were walking past two people on a bench that had been dead for over so many years....Edward chuckled at that thought....

Tanya sat on the bench wondering why in the world she had even come back to Washington. If she had wanted to get her thoughts straight, she should have just gone to the Volturi. They could make her see sense...in anything. Clenching her eyes and her fists, she felt rain drops falling softly over her. She loosened her eyes, opening them slightly to stare at the pavement beneath her form. Tanya was in a state of shock, really. She had experienced fear around Edward, something she never had before. Why was he changing on her? She just didn't understand why he suddenly became a person who frightened her.
People changed, and she knew that. At the same time, Tanya never thought that someone could change for the worst in so little time. Sure, it had been a few years since she had seen Edward - but that wasn't a very long time in the vampire scheme of things. She just couldn't comprehend the fact that Edward was different now. The smell of human blood drenched her throat in a burning sensation. She growled slightly. She hated being this monster that thirsted for the blood of humans. Then, the familiar scent of Edward Cullen rushed over her senses, and she looked up.
"I'm sorry. That wasn't me in there...My evil twin..." Tanya smiled, shaking her head. "It's fine...no bother," she said softly, looking up at him. She watched him as he looked around at the humans. When he chuckled, she saw the true him come back. She nodded and turned her head to watch as people as they walked past them. "What are you going to do?" she asked. She wondered if he was even considering changing his path. If he didn't, then it was his immortal life he was ruining. But as a friend, she would be there for him despite any decisions he would make - whether good or bad.
